Lukaku has zero competition. Mirallas/Naismith arent even considered good enough to be rotated with him for any meaningful length of time.

I agree he has no competition but about rotating......

Why the hell would we rotate a striker who has scored in the past 6 games and scored what, 14 goals so far this season?

Do you want Martinez to come out and say to lukaku that he has been great but he is giving naismith a go just to make it fair?

But despite United's expenditure they don't have a very deep squad - they have gutted it of experienced fringe players which is precisely my concern.

Of course we wouldn't be fine if Rom was injured regardless of our transfer policy but believe one of Naismith/Mirallas replacing Rom would be significantly better than thrusting Yarmolenko into the role with no adaption time.

Just think taking the sort of risk you are suggesting is too high in the January window, you disagree so best we leave it there, especially as you said yourself it is very unlikely to happen.
Maybe I want to take a risk
Because I'm sick of getting to January nearly every year being in the mix
And failing. To kick on and ultimately missing out

I think it was 2007 or 08 in touching distance of the top 4 in jan crying out for another striker and quality midfielder
Defoe was available from Spurs and diarra from Chelsea
Both went to Portsmouth who won the cup and then sold them for a profit 12 months later

And we got manny Fernandes
Yes the guy who stuck 2 fingers up to us at the Last hour of the August window to go to Valencia
Got injured and didn't play s game
So we got him on loan in jan to get him fit for the following year could make that sh up
I'm not bitter like

And I'm sick of the same crap every year
If we have to watch Kone or Naismith down the left for the rest of this season
Or mirallas who obviously has burnt his bridges and is hardly going to break his balls for Martinez

Then we will miss out again
Wiuld rather see a kid on the bench and another class attacking player in the team

We aren't doing any business this window. The manager has already said this.

If we never heard of McGeady or McAleny again i cant see how it would make any difference to the squad. Gibson will be injured soon as well....

The only two i could agree with you about would be Mirallas and Naismith...one or both look off to me.

Signings ive mentioned are just examples...im sure Martinez has his list of players.

Losing McGeady, Mirallas, Naismith and McAleny all at one time would dramatically decrease our attacking options and other than Austin none of your replacements has premier league experience so very difficult to predict how they would adapt.

It is a philosophical difference Zat, you believe a radical overhaul of our fringe players would be healthy and likely immediately successful whereas I'm not convinced on either but certainly not in the January window.

Would that be the same Portsmouth who went bust because they spent money they never had and have since sunk without a trace?

Doesn't seem like a great long term strategy you're advocating here Stephen.

Doesn't seem like our board have (ever had) a business plan or are ever willing to speculate. As @Stephenlloyd says; they were both sold on at a profit. CL pays more than any cup does.

But let's be grateful for what we've got, eh?

Well by rotation what i mean to say is that there's no one who can come in for 20-30mins at the end of a game. Lukaku is basically playing entire matches and logically will be knackered before the end of the season...

At the very least thats a fitness concern and we have no one who can come off the bench each game to give him a break.

What we need is the Lukaku west brom had as well as the lukaku we have today.

Did you read his post or just skim it?

Defoe and Diarra were class for portsmouth and rather than Diarra we went after Fernandes.

Both Defoe and Diarra were sold at a profit 12months later...after Pompey won the FA Cup.

Its ok to take risks on a couple of players, we have the means.

Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady could leave Everton in the January transfer window to aid their Euro 2016 dream

True, but how many goals is luakaku scoring in the last 20 minutes of games for us? Again why take him off when he is our best goal threat in the squad now that hibbert is injured?

If we're only looking at buying players to make a quick profit I reckon we should sell Lukaku and Stones quick smart, what say you?

Yes, I think we should follow the example set by Leeds and go for bust.

It worked out splendidly for them.

So buying ONE player to improve the squad would've broken us, instead of helping us push on and contend for a CL spec, then?

OK, mate. I suppose Kevin Campbell's goals didn't make any difference whatsoever, eh? Ruined us, him.

however, it is now believed that Gibson may leave Everton next month in the hope of finding regular first-team football ahead of the European Championships.
