It's whatever at this point. The 100 million war chest appears to be all talk to get the fans excited. If there aren't a few signings who can improve our starting 11 prepare for another long season.

What i honestly believe is a lot of the speculation is well just that.

We don't know for certain most of those "bids" were ever the case with the exception of the sketchy ITK lads.

Isn't it more likely that Koeman when taking over decided to evaluate his squad first? Maybe he was also told about Steve Walsh and he then possibly put his list together for our new director to evaluate and for them to discuss targets.

And you know maybe we did throw a cheeky bid or two in there but give it time we have a complete new regime.

Oh and before anyone mentions Mourinho or Guardiola their appointments well they would be exceptions in my book. Also they have been known for some time and they are obviously top tier teams who don't mess around and had targets from the off.

Maybe just maybe our new leaders wanted to make sure everything was in order first.

Sure look at some of the players we have been linked with some of them border ridiculous for the sake of bids and unfortunately others are in our current state out of our league.

Patience is the key here.

These lads on here getting bent out of shape and depressed and calling for the end of the world seems to be the norm nowadays. Give our new system a bloody chance.

What so it's only a 'war chest' if it's all spent in July?

All this knee-jerking because supposedly we aren't signing Arnautovic who we were probably only ever mildly interested in anyway?

Surely, surely, the silence means we're working on several huge deals. Right?

I just get the feeling the board is trying to be ambitious (good thing) but is being turned down right, left and centre by players who consider themselves too good for us (bad thing).

Funny how at the beginning of last season loads on here were saying 'we've had a great window, kept all our best players, added Del, Lennon, Galloway, Holgate, Cleverley, Funes Mori and Rodriguez'. We've now kept all of those players, shed a few who weren't offering anything on the pitch any more and replaced them with some quality youngsters. Plus all the young players that Martinez supposedly needed endless amounts of time to 'mature' according to some are also a year older. Yet heads are falling off now and we apparently have a completely unbalanced squad. Both can't be true.

The reality is we have a very good squad with some very good young players. It will only take one or two top signings in key positions (GK, creative mid) to augment this into a squad capable of challenging top 4. I'm sure we will make those additions before the window is out.

I think it's Stockholme Syndrome. When we first became rubbish everyone genuinely hated it and there were proper reasons for the masses to grumble and gripe. As time went on, people started to get some sort of pleasure from the complaining, finding that giving Kenwright a good bashing whenever possible was enough to get the endorphins rushing and forget that Everton are not the beautiful princess they used to be.

Now things are looking up, the club has already done things under Moshiri that we couldn't have done under the previous regime, the ground looks a definite possibility and pretty much every source in world football says we have money to spend, but...the complainers like to complain now, they enjoy it, the pleasure is no longer it trying to be great again, but rather in finding ways to paint the club in the same light it has been for the past 30 years. Even in the face of the evidence, there are some that will always prefer to be angry about what is not happening rather than entertain the fact that we might just be on the verge of something exciting.
The masochistic nature of being an Evertonian

We're closing in on two weeks to the beginning of the season.

Our first game is against a Champions League club.

Who cares if it is against a CL club or a newly promtoed one, how exactly does that matter?

Flip side - our first game is against a team whose 'England' core looked utterly goosed at the end of the season and had a shocking euro tournament with all the stick that came with that, who are also going to be missing Dembele for our game - who is arguably the player who makes the entire side tick, and whose pre season consists of a PR excercise flying around Australia

we are 2 weeks and 4 days away so closer to 3 weeks anyway

A sold out Goodison, 3pm kickoff, a 'BIG' team coming on opening weekend for the first time in ages, the first game of the Koeman era, sorry mate but if your worrying because we havents signed anyone whilst it's still not even the end of July, then you are kneejerking

Has nothing to do with Arnautovic (who I wouldn't want anyways).

And yes if you have lots of money to spend you start signing people as soon as possible.

Other teams have identified targets and quickly signed said targets. Everton drag their feet and wait and wait and then scramble as the window is about to close. Just don't see the point in waiting until mid-August to start signing. Get them in early to start bonding with their new team before the season starts instead of two or three games into the season.

We'll beat Spurs even if we don't sign anybody else between now and then, but if we really don't get at least 3 better players than what we currently have in our first XI then 11th seems about right, again.
