Everton 'too good to go down'?

This makes things difficult in terms of perceptions as we look at players like Jags, Howard and Baines and see three quality players but they're not what they were in my opinion.
Baines is a difficult one to judge. Although he's had a percentage of assists this season, he's looked less free-flowing or confident going forward.

However, the fact that in many games this season he's had little or nobody in front of him (apart from Barkley or Naismith) probably hasn't helped.

Only with genuine support in front of him, providing overlaps in attack and supporting in defence, could we really judge his actual form.

Howard has definitely deteriorated as a player which was evident under the last season of Moyes's tenure. Last season may have just masked it.

Jagielka has looked much more comfortable with Stones, but he's certainly not confident on the ball and is suffering due to our midfield.

It's certainly looking as if he isn't fully comfortable with his captain duties, therefore that added pressure may also be a contributing factor.

To be fair though, I think the majority of our players (bar a few) have looked sheepish this season at times and not on full form.

Coleman, Barry, Barkley and Mirallas immediately spring to mind. Then there's certain issues with Rom and now Naismith looks exhausted.

I imagine if that everyone around you is in some form or rut, it's much harder to demonstrate your own talents or abilities and influence a game.

As a squad they must collectively improve if we're to ensure safety: a few signings in the summer aren't going to simply rectify that.

....it's a strange statement 'too good to go down' because the simple fact is that the league doesn't lie. Football isn't just about the best players, it's about attititude, application and organisation. We are not too good to go down, we are clearly lacking somewhere.

I think merson got it spot on today when he said if we go down it would be with the best squad in history
