Everton, the Premier League football club, could be put up for sale if the government approves its new 50,000-capacity stadium in Kirkby. A decision is expected within days.
It is understood that tycoons from India, Russia and America will swoop for the club if the green light is given to the £400m stadium project on the outskirts of Liverpool.
It is thought an offer would not be rejected out of hand by Everton's high-profile board, which includes theatre impresario Bill Kenwright and Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl.
The two are thought to have disagreements over the future of the club. This is denied by Earl, who is currently holidaying with billionaire tycoon, Philip Green, on his £32m yacht.
It is understood that Green also has financial interests in Everton. Green helped Kenwright to buy the club four years ago. He is a lifelong friend of Earl, who owns 24 per cent of the club. It was claimed last week that highly regarded Everton manager David Moyes had to consult Green if he wanted a new player. However, Green denied he was financially linked to the club and downplayed his involvement. He said he gave advice to Kenwright when requested and that he regularly acted for Earl in club matters, as he lives in America and cannot always attend meetings.
Moyes is known to be unhappy at the lack of progress in signing new players. Kenwright was forced to put out a statement last Friday to dispel growing anger among fans.
A bitter war of words has now broken out between the tycoons running the club and their former chief executive, Keith Wyness, who resigned last Monday. Earl accused Wyness, a former marketing executive at British Airways, of looking for another job on company time. He said he had documents which confirmed this.
Wyness has spent part of the summer advising Paul Davidson, the controversial City figure otherwise known as 'The Plumber', who is in the midst of due diligence on the purchase of Real Mallorca, the top-flight Spanish club.
It is thought Wyness is being lined up to become chief executive of Mallorca if Davidson buys the club in a deal worth over €50m.
Wyness refused to comment on his departure but friends said he had done nothing wrong and was helping 'an old mate' while on annual leave. It has been suggested that his departure was linked to Green's influence at Everton.
Wyness's departure prompted Green and Earl to sail from Sardinia to Mallorca for a confrontation with their former chief executive.
Wyness is expected now to join Davidson at Mallorca if he becomes the first overseas owner of a Spanish football club. The due diligence process is expected to run for another four weeks. Davidson, who was convicted of market abuse by the Financial Services Authority and then had the decision overturned on appeal, will sell some of the club's property assets to fund new players.
Davidson beat off former Newcastle United chairman, Freddy Shepherd and an unnamed wealthy Russian.

Papers in made up story with nothing to back up their claims shocker.

Its a joke that they can print anything without a single bit of evidence. I would sue em.

Kenwright would sell the club, but only to people who would invest, and not be like man city and take charge of the team, hes said it continuously, thats whats good about him. If someone did buy the club, he would be a good owner.

how long would a take over take? if it was in the pipe line what about players coming in?

oh what a mess this pre season is!

This pre-season isn't a mess at all. I think far from it. What is a mess is the internet, and the human-like nature to follow. You get one guy panicking and spinning doom and gloom and soon you have two people, then 4 etc etc, pretty soon we have been relegated before the season has begun, we are signing players that are league 2 quality, the club is in administration and going to fold.

Or, we can, like me, worry about my baby being born at any time. Due at the end of the month, but the other two where both early and wifey is having braxton hicks contractions. Any thing but Everton. It will all be good, I'll have another little Evertonian in the tribe and we will be spanking all-comers in the league.

a mess in relation to the on going decision over whether to call in kirkby. it was originaly set for one month ago. it would be nice to know either way by now.

also keith wyness walking out and preparing his lawyers for a statement.

also the annoying, but not overall terrible situation, of not having any new players get involved with the pre season games and tactical variations that go with.

these above points are not how i would have liked the pre season to pan out.

still i'm hardly screaming blue murder and calling for blue bill's head!

this, dylan, is a mess within context of course! good luck with your third child~! lets hope we have a new dixie on the books in 16 years!!:D

i also have worries that far out strip the everton problems, as i am going to open my own private school in six months and have a million and one things to organize over that.

but footy is that great escapism for us all, eh~!

I wonder what the effect of such a rumour will be on the vetting process for Kirkby. If the government thinks that the stadium project is just part of a cunning plan to sell the club at a nice profit, will they be more likely to call it in?
And if they do call it in will a rumour like this make it more likely for the project to be rejected?

Oh trust me the baby part is the easy bit..pain will go away and you'll have a couple of very happy years gooing and gahhing over the little one

Then they grow up into twin 16 year olds..all long hair and attitude thats the real time to worry

But grats anyway :)

Just was over at TW and had to get out of there.

Ive head nor tail of what to make of the whole affair anymore.

The only lines not to be so blurred are the optimists v's negatives. The dont worries v the gimmies.

Love a good tycoon if so be the case.

Happy times for you Dylan! But theres never a more responsible parent to bring a child up in this crazy world. Good on you. Plenty of surragate uncles here to babysit if you want a break! Just slot junior into your computer chair and the Coynies and the Reidys will regaile tales of old to keep baby amused for hours!

@ Teppic, are you in Korea? If so giz a job at your new school!

Part of that sounds to me that Wyness got found out about his involvement with the Real Mallorca thing and jumped before he was pushed..

To be honest i am very suspicious of a takeover, praticularly if they are coming from Asia or America as i think a move would be about buissness intrest rather then whats best for the club. Perhaps im being naieve. Ive posted many times here about beleiving that the club would be taken over following any new stadium and i still beleive it, wheather i am for it or not depends very much on what any potential new owners bring to the table. I would like Bill to stay on in some executive capcity at the club if a takeover was to happen.

But to be honest i am very wary about any takeover.

Tbh, i always thought that would be case, that Mr Kenwright may sell when he had an saleable package like a team on the up, great fan base and the new stadium,if not Mr Kenwright other high profile board members at least would look to sell on.
As for Earl etc demanding to know why a club employee has suddenly left his pivotable role within the club, without what seems a reason given(up to today anyway), i think they are quite correct to find out what his reasons are.Lets face it the guy has not got a good track record.
That is if the origional artical can be believed at all.
