Well we finished 10th last year and that was with half a squad of players who were invisible being off the pitch, or worse, more or less invisible whilst on it such was their meagre or non-existent contribution, the sideways crabs and their ilk who don't offer anything.

It's not that we want the bar that low for new arrivals, of course not, but when you think about it, if Townsend & Gray are even moderately successful, subject to a very small layout, then we gain quite significantly.

There is no reason not to replicate that with 2 or 3 other signings to come hopefully.

It's actually quite hard for us not to improve on a player v player basis, the only thing then is how everyone gels together and having more luck with injuries than we are used to. I suspect James was probably evaluated in this respect if Benitez is happy to let him go.
