Welcome to Barcelonaton FC
Is he very good.
He’s had a very good half season in 5yrs. Last game at centre back in a 2 was v Fulham
Last year's players player of the year and a bumper new contract says the club believe him to be good.

Reminds me of when everyone was flapping saying we were valuing Kenny too low at £10m, only for it to turn out that nobody was willing to offer any money for him at all. I’d be amazed if anyone was willing to pay much more than £20m for holgate.
We'll see I suppose. I would imagine Kenny has been theoretically for sale for the last 3/4 years, but he was definitely available in January.Matter of opinion cos he's not going anywhere anyway.
And have we tried selling Kenny?
I think the contract it to protect the asset as they say, if he had kicked on this season and been outstanding and got in the England squad . And we hadn’t given him a new deal, we now could be in a bad situation and lose him for peanutsLast year's players player of the year and a bumper new contract says the club believe him to be good.
This lid gets it.Turn the question on its head.
In a high line would you prefer both centre backs to be quick, or just one?
If we played a bit higher then we could use Godfrey as the covering defender due to his pace. Wouldnt you prefer to see Godfrey going out to snap forwards with another quick ball playing defender on the cover?
Of course we need a centre back, unless you would prefer us to continue sitting deep every game.
We have a full house of centre backs but only one who can become top class.
if you sell Holgate then you cant play the 3 at the back with him and Godfrey as the wide centre backs. You cant play Keane and Mina in a 3, its suicidal.
We go with Godfrey/Holgate + one of Keane/Mina as rotation for the new signing.
Incorrect. I said we could afford to do that.
Thats due to Moshiri and USMs appetite.
Both of those clubs have financial issues due to the way dortmund is run and Inter's Chinese owners pulling the plug.
Exactly. If you sell then its Keane (peak value) or Mina (2 years left)...or both and bring in a younger top notch centre back with world class potential.
Think Ruben Dias effect for City...alongside Godfrey.
If we go 3 at the back then we can do this.
If we go for an expansive 4 then we would need to splash on multiple wide players in addition to CB, CM and RB
Holgate at worst can play CB in a 4 + RCB in a 3. In addition he can play both full back positions as long as were deep and hes focused on defence.
Keane/Mina can only play CB. Both in a 4 or a 3 they play CB. Thats all.
Godfrey of course, similar to Holgate. Ancelotti said he likes these types and both of them arent at their peak value and have many years in them.
We never play a high line with Keane being a liability.
So many people think hes pracitcally world class while hes just an effective lump to have in a deep defence.
Find a buyer for him and lets go and sign actual top players.
Godfrey is not a guaranteed starter if all defenders are fit
The other 3 new signings are
Godfrey is definitely a very successful signing as he will only get better
To all the glass half full fans. Who wet their knickers every summer over FFP. And we’ve got no money, covid, big losses, we can’t sell the deadwood
We had no FFP last Summer and spent £60m.
If Koubailly was world class, he wouldn't be at Napoli at the start of the end of his career being touted to us at £35mill.
Carlo only prefers Keane and Mina cos we don't have a right back and Holgate plays there.
This lid gets it.
CB may not be a priority area (agree that RB, a decent winger and a CM are probably top of the list) but to claim that we don't need a CB is nonsense. Our drop back and defend the edge of the six yard box tactics this year have been designed because we are so deficient in that area. Keano and Yerry look good in that system, because it plays to their strengths, but it seriously limits our ability to control the ball and play our better footballers into the game with possession. Also it doesn't suit Jordy, who is more of a sweeper keeper / one on one stopper, and not someone who will clear out a load of bodies and command the area.
Replace Keane or Mina with a genuine Champs League quality CB and I think you will see the entire team will step up a level.

We aren’t waiting for youngsters to become brilliant before giving them better deals, for a kick off it gives their agent more pulling power, big clubs want you mason, we can get another 50k a week out of Everton.
Its a calculated gamble
He won’t get a game unless there’s injuries,Then we'll have to see how he performs as a centre back

Hes only playing RB as its him or Coleman and Ancelotti must feel that hes the best option there. He won’t get a game unless there’s injuries,
He’s 4th choice now.
Or unless we play a 3

You rate him, that fine I don’t that much. I think he’s poor technically. And in 18 months I don’t see him at the club. Not entirely the case especially if we get Europe next season and the amount of games.
You say he's 4th choice now and that's mainly down to the fact he's had to play right back.
We have a fit a defence, you're talking form and competition. Which last season he out performed Keane.
Not one player in our squad would be a starter in an ideal world, we could theoretically improve in every single position. I don't think anybody thinks our centre halves are the best around, but unless we have an enormous amount of money to spend this summer I can't see us prioritising a centre half when there are other positions we barely have functional options in.This lid gets it.
