Everton reporters you cant stand or you rate highly

Kilbane is good. The thing I find funny is how many ex Arsenal players seem to talk us up, think Martin Keown must have got in their heads after he left us as most are his former teammates.

There's no other thread dealing with this that I can find, so I thought I'd start this.

Who are the (tv, radio, press) reporters who now or in the past have commented on Everton that evoke a strong reaction?

The likes of Elton Welsby from days of yore on the box and Brian Moore always were respectful of us IIRC. Not sure of Motson, heard he liked us but I think he's a red (or red sympathising pinko). 'kin Alan Parry is a dyed in the wool red and gives us nothing more than a pat on the head if we're lucky (and should never be able to commentate one of our games) and Tyler is an obvious Kopite. Matt Smith is another Kopite though and he's always been ok with us. Out of the radio pack I always felt Jimmy Armfield loved us - as did Stuart Hall, but the least said about that feller the better! Obviously Alan Green is the devil incarnate and cant stand us. On the local side we have Mike Hughes is a massive blue (although his ecstatic screams when that lot score would lead you to think otherwise). Ian Kennedy is a Kopite, absolutely no question and quite snide about Everton on the sly in a patronising way...as is that other feller who covers our games Mike(?) Jones. The press pack have covered Everton favourably for years - for Kenwright's sake more than anything else - so the Viners and Wilson's have been favourable. That tool McNulty is the big standout on the other side of the aisle. Supposedly an Evertonian but his record at covering us is a disgrace and his hounding of Joe Royle repugnant. The local lads at the Echo have been hopeless in objectively covering the club and are a joke. I really cant find a good word to say anything about them - especially the present and ex-senior staffers.
Phil Kinsella referred to Everton as 'us' a few weeks ago. I assume he's a blue.

I like the BBC Radio Merseyside lot to be honest. I know Paul Salt is a red but I like him.

Always thought McNulty was a red btw.

nah mate, a lot of those where around the time that Arsenal - Liverpool where fighhting it out with each other, and we as there rival obviously became a favourite i reckon

Plus never ever been mcuh of a rivalry betwene us as we have had our success at different timkes, throw in the fact we are the two longest serving teams etc and theres a lot of decent history in common

The worst so called pundit by far is Garth Crooks. He hasn't a clue when he talks about football clearly trying to use a vocabulary way out of his comfort zone. His so called team of the week column is a joke and he must look at the weekends games and think 'hmmmmm who scored, get them in'.
Take this weeks midfield for instance and their reasons for inclusion Mkhitaryan (goal and an assist), Kante (4 tackles) and Mata (goal) are his choice. Ross (5 tackles, goal, assist and all action display) not mentioned.
This guy is stealing a living and we are unfortunately paying it with the mandatory TV tax.
He's a whopper of the highest order. But I think everyone who knows anything about football is aware of that. His team of the week is widely acknowledged to be a joke.

All of them - none.

Never knew that mate, will have to give that a read, cheers
Off topic I know, so apologies. But just to agree, it really is a great book. Comes across as a good fella too. On topic, the ones I dislike who deserve special mention from a very lengthy list of pundits rather than reporters include, Savage obviously. Agree Garth Crookes is awful and pompous. Souness unpleasant character. Redknapp truly dim. Tyler, just get the feeling he doesnt like us. Surprised Danny Mills hasn't been mentioned. There are plenty more, but deep, deep, down beneath that mass of garbage sits Danny Murphy.

....I think Alan Green is the most patronising football commentator on the planet.

I remember Dave Prentice going to an Echo editorial meeting and asking why the newspaper uses different naming conventions for our clubs; Rafael, Carra, Stevie G etc for Reds, Cahill, Moyes, Arteta etc for Everton.
"Brendan and Jurgen"

Alan Green is that deadly combination of small brain, big gob. What he knows about football you could write on the back of a stamp.

Another word for the Gary Imlach book. I really enjoyed it.

My favourite pundit would have to be John 'Aldo' Aldridge. He's a rare breed in the pundit world, totally impartial, open minded, with an obvious leaning towards EFC. Probably my favourite kopite after Jimmy Case. :coffee:

Yes I'd agree with Neville and your impartial comments.
Tends to speak a lot of common sense too.

Yeah, GN & PN. Committed players, tick. Genuine, probably. Lucky to be part of that Utd era? maybe. Neither holds a candle to McGrath, Irwin though and neither on a par for my money with Pallister and Bruce who were key for Utd but just in an era pre: Becks, Ronaldo and others in their prime. The reason I mention both that is that I think that reputationally they sit in a pedestal in football based on past achievement. Good values, hard working etc - but it was a LONG TIME AGO.

Punditry I think sits a little closer to management in that it involves analysing and decision making across entire teams, and understanding the opposition, too. Both Neville's records in this area are poor, actually. England awful during Neville/Hodgson era, Valencia awful. They both sound earnest and knowledgable as Mancs generally try to come across, but facts are facts. They were honest players, end of.

I've actually heard greater balance from the likes of Robbie Fowler whom everyone knows is a Red, but analysis is separate from his opinions.

Also a little off centre but am I the only person who cannot stand Jim "name dropping" White . I was genuinely made up when that gobsh... Colin "poynds" Murray left talksport and thought I'd give Jim White a chance . He is like a real life Alan Partridge , desperate for credibility and to be liked . His brown nosing ways is totally cringeworthy and the man is a total pr... !!!! Fridays are , without doubt , the most unbearable with Mr potato head next to him . Shocking .
