Ross Barkley targeted by Manchester United in £45 million bid via Royal Blue Mersey

22 year old is consider top target of United

As if the rumors circling Romelu Lukaku and John Stones weren't enough we've gotten our first taste of Ross Barkley transfer rumors. It appears not only is Manchester United interested in Lukaku to fix the Red Devils offense, but also gaining some skill in the midfield by taking another Everton midfielder before he hits his prime.

This has to be the toughest pill to swallow for Everton fans and Everton owners as well. Would Everton have sold Wayne Rooney all those years ago if they had had the investment they do now? I think it's unlikely. So while Lukaku and Stones might be taken as potential sales I think any deal involving Barkley is a non starter.

The rumored bid of £45 million is a hefty prize, but Barkley means so much to this team and to the fans that a sale now with financial stability at the club it would be a crushing blow to moral of the club and supporters. With two years left on his deal it might even be a good time for the team to address his contract and extend him to quiet summer transfer talk.

Much like Everton though any of these rumors are based on teams keeping their current managers. If Louis van Gaal doesn't survive till the summer window then who Manchester United is interested in could change a lot.

The Toffees stink this year, but it's a game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, so this is still a big one.

It's been more than two weeks since we last saw Everton take the field and, surprising or not, a lot has happened. Romelu Lukaku and his father have ignited rumors of his summer departure. And the continued poor performances from the club have increased the regularity of talk that the likes of John Stones and Ross Barkley may join Lukaku in heading for the exit. It's time for actual football and no more talk.

It's a match-up of managers on the hot seat at Old Trafford. Some have reported that Manchester United's Louis Van Gaal may make way for Jose Mourinho following the season. And just about every Toffee supporter has lost their patience with Roberto Martinez at the helm of their club. Three points here could prove crucial to either head man. United must win to stay in contention for the top four. Everton could stand to prove that they are able to compete with the big clubs in the regular season.

Despite how inconsistent the performances have been for the Blues, Martinez has repeatedly stuck with a very similar starting XI. With the FA Cup as the real prize left to win this season, it would be nice to see the manager mix things up a bit here. Maybe give Gerard Deulofeu another run in the squad. Finally have Oumar Niasse start a match perhaps? Anything to break up the stale-ness of EFC's football lately.
