Everton might have a transition season next year?

Next year.. some notable over 30s

Sylvain Distin - 37

Jagielka - 32

Osman - 33

Pienaar - 32

Alcaraz - 32

Howard - 35
Plus, you guys would have to return the 3 loanees back. I can see you guys going for Barry though. But even Barry would be 33 or 34 next season. I can't see Lukaku and Deulofeu returning.

Distin and Jagielka pretty much are your first choice centreback partnership. Distin is already 37. How much longer can he last? I'll be optimistic and say 2 seasons at most.

Osman is 33. Definetly a replacement has to be found for him.

Pienaar is also probably another guranteed starter.

Do you guys think you'll have a transition season?

I think you have just too many players to buy. You guys have to really get a striker soon. Lukaku will probably go back to Chelsea. I don't even think one striker is enough, if you want to compete in the Europa.

Distin is 36, fair point though, he can't go on forever.
Pienaar is no longer a guaranteed starter, neither is Osman. Don't think Lukaku will be here next season, Deulofeu may be.
Alcaraz has played about twice so doesn't really matter.
Think Barry will be an Everton player next season.

Everything was going well for you until this beaut,

If he can somehow evolve us into a possession based side like Barcelona, just for example, meh, i can see us doing well next season on all fronts.

Not too worried about most of these, ome midfielder will cover Osman and Pienaar with our own Ross the boss coming through, and perhaps another loan just for depth, we have our own made replacement with Stones, and don't discount Tyias Browning on the bench, who is apparantly the nearest youth player to our team. Howard could still play for a few seasons, look at Friedel, Cudicini etc,

We're obviously going to win the league next season, with Naismith scoring 20+ goals in the process, Distin discovering the key to eternal life and Barkley ascending to the next stage of human evolution. I wouldn't worry about Everton, mate.

I don't really think that players being over 30 (and in some cases here) mid thirties. Is the issue it once was.If a players game is all about pace then obviously age may be a factor. But with the players mentioned (other than Osman who is pushed to play more than 60m) their Prem experience and reading of the game can give them another season or three at least.

Right, let's have it lad.

Distin is a cyborg. He'll be playing until he's 59. Also, have you seen this lad?

No? That's fine. No one does until he nips in and takes the ball from them.

Jags will keep going until he develops an actual man's moustache. At least another 3-5 years.

Osman can retire now and he'll be missed in the same way one might miss Syphilis or Hepatitis C.

Pienaar needs replacing, but he's been off the boil this season and we're doing all right.

Alcaraz has played about 2 games and spent the rest of his time here leaning over, holding his ribs with a stitch. Hardly intrinsic.

Howard isn't exactly Buffon, and keepers can play for a long while. He's fine. If not we've got Joel 'butterfingers' Robles, who would be the best keeper in the world if we stuck some sticky tape on his palms.

Lukaku I feel we will go all out for. And should that fail Traore looks certain to return. Deulofeu will probably be here for another season but again, for all of the hype and his delicious blonde foof-hair, he's played about 200 minutes of football.

Not to mention Boss Rarkley being older and wiser, James McCarthy growing in confidence and Bryan 'our Lord and Saviour' Oviedo returning.

Plus I'm sure we've got millions to spend...

Well maybe not. But still, we're ace.

To be fair mate, they're all over 30 this season, too.

Of course we'll need to replace them, but transitional phases are the new norm. When you think about a squad of 25 players with a 15 year age range, then you're going to need to recycle 2 or 3 positions a year just to keep the squad age constant.

Don't understand the hate for Rodgers here.

I won't deny that against 'big' teams, we do go for the long ball. That's a tactic in a sense. Rodgers knows our defending isn't that good. He knows our front two are excellent strikers, he tries to limit the midfield, cut off the opponent's balls into midfield, and lets our strikers run riot? Isn't that a tactic in a sense?

Against Southampton, we knew what they were going to do. We played a midfield diamond, we nullified the attacking threats of Lallana and Rodriguez, stopped Shaw and Chambers from overlapping, stopped crosses getting in constantly. We got the ball forward to Suarez and Sturridge who tried to break the high line of Soton.

I wouldn't think Rodgers would enforce on the so called 'long ball' tactics next season. We are definetly going to have some real money to spend this summer, at least 40m, and you probably dont watch us much, but during Rodgers's first half season at Liverpool, he played our posession game very well. Sure, results were disastrous, but the posession part, we got it right. Shows that he knows how to create a passing game.

we feel sorry for his wife, and the girl his son assaulted

Brenda will continue with his long ball tactics next season because you have ESSAYESS, THE GREATEST STRIKEFORCE IN ALL OF UROP which it will work with. (The vast majority of) Liverpool fans will continue to deny that Liverpool do this and will still dislike teams like Stoke because "they play hoofball, unlike us."

Your transfer budget next season is irrelevant. You will blow it on tosh, like you always do.

You've had plenty of time to start becoming "the next Barcelona." If it was going to happen, you'd have seen definite signs of it already.

With regards to Everton (as this is an Everton forum and all): Alcaraz, Osman and Pienaar should be substitutes at best next season. All others are fine. Deulofeu could stay on, we may go for Lukaku. We can always find others.

You could argue that every season is a 'transition' season, teams evolve, players get replaced and hopefully make the team better. Think our defence is pretty much sorted with Howard, Coleman, Jags, Stones, Distin, Alcaraz, Baines, Oviedo and possibly Duffy maybe Browning will get a few games. I'm not too sure about Robles maybe sign another keeper.

Midfield we should get Barry, then we have McCarthy and Gibson for central midfield. We definitely need one or two more, maybe Lundstrum and a loan. The wings are probably sorted with Mirallas, McGeady, Naismith, Pienaar and possibly Deulofeu on loan and Oviedo.

Then we have Barkley, Ossie, Mirallas, Naismith behind the striker. Up front we need at least 4 strikers. Kone will be one, Martinez doesn't seem to want to play Vellios, so McAleny maybe given a good few games. Martinez will probably buy a few strikers or again get 1 in on loan.

I think though that Ossie and Pienaar will be better used as squad players. The main thing though is that we go into games with high expectations and not just hope we do well.
