Andy Johnson? Had been in PL but had spent a season in championship before we signed him.

Dan gosling?

Yeah mate but AJ had scored over 20 in the premier league two seasons before we signed him, hardly picking up under the radar bargains from the championship. Also broke our transfer record too.

Gosling was awful, played like 20 odd games in the league mostly as a sub in three seasons

Checked his record from Transfermarkt, and it claims following players were signed from Championship: Johnson, Lescott, Jagielka, Stones, Cahill, Gosling, Bent and Beckford. And as mentioned above, caveats apply to several of them.

Jagielka got relegated and we bought him that summer mate

I'd totally forgotten Johnson having had another season in the Championship after his big PL one, had to go and check that was right because I had no recollection of it at all! I wasn't counting the likes of Gosling and Stones who were more long term prospects, just thinking of players signed for the first team from the Championship. I think generally people count Baines and Jagielka when they're talking about it being something he did a lot, but I think there's only really the 2 mentioned (and Beckford the same principle even if not technically) who were 'picked up from the championship' in the way we would normally talk about it - ie players we're taking a chance on stepping up not players who have already done it in the PL but have now been relegated etc.

Yeah I'd say he rarely shopped there, so finding it funny seeing a lot of media and a lot of our own fans somehow thinking or expecting him to raid the championship for a lot of players

He doesn’t do it loads, but I think there’s a bit of a conflation of championship and SPL as well, and even just “non PL experience”. For me, it’s the taking a punt on someone that’s unknown at this (PL) level like Arteta was for example is what some people mean when they are saying it,

Think there might be a spot of confusion in here at the moment, the whole Moyes buys from the Championship thing I think might have come from some clickbait story the other week that our summer business would be targeting the better players in that league, hence the links to the likes of Neil and Fellows.

Buy where there is value. The moneyball model needs to be the focus for a short period. Several clubs who have established themselves recently in the PL are the model to look to.

Moyes is already good at this.
