I am not certain re Kendall, and as yet it hasn't been done mid season, by the end of that season I'm convinced Kendall passes. Likewise I remember polls done on Moyes on various forums when we struggled and he rarely went below 70% of fan supporting him. Many of the 70% were quite critical, but generally still didn't want him sacked.

It took until right at the end under Martinez and in honesty probably spurred on by the option of huge Moshiri money to get rid of him.

Allardyce is a very bad fit and people can see no long term viability in it. At no point has he tried to buck that trend, with loaning lads like Lookman out, starting Martina over Kenny or not giving fringe players a chance. He has re-enforced the perception he is here for the short term. It makes no difference whether we finish 8th or 14th now, and we would get far more value testing lads like Vlasic, Klaassen etc and seeing if they were ready for next season, but to Allardyce it makes enormous difference for 2 reasons. Firstly on his cv he can state he got a top half finish for a relegation certainty side (which is how he and his mates will frame it come the next job). And secondly he will use it to attack the club, "sacked for finishing 8th" sounds a lot more harsh than "sacked for finishing 14th". A disproportionate amount of his decisions and moves are related to his image management so this will be vitally important to him.

Whether this trend continues once Kenwright is gone we will not know. I think it's important if/when Allardyce is sacked the club make it clear it is not to do with the fans filling out the questionnaire. What is also important is they send a clear message, whoever the next manager is that they are here for the long term. If it's Fonseca, get the guy on a 5 year deal, make a big thing of it, lead people in that he is a long term choice and people will follow.

Then if they get Brands, make it clear he is now in charge of recruitment of managers going forward. Considering Brands' comments of late, I suspect a lot may depend on that. Currently we have a bizarre situation where 3 men partake in different roles of the DOF. Walsh, Kenwright and Moshiri all fulfil functions of a DOF. I can see why Brands will think adding him as a 4th guy in the role will likely not improve things. Kenwright needs to be moved on, Walsh needs to be given a strictly scouting brief and Moshiri needs to but out of the football side and ensure his role is holding the DOF and new CEO to account as well as making sure the stadium is progressing.
Fantastic post mate, totally agree

Speculation on my part,
I reckon the club has spoken to Sam about this idea that real fans are behind him and negativity is just coming from social media.
"Do you mind if we do a survey?"
Sam being the way he is probably replied he was fine with it.
Let's be honest mate. If I was near the end of my career, and had the dosh he's got, I wouldn't be arsed either.

I think its embarrassing that our Board would ever have to ask fans what they think of our manager....watch the games yourselves lads, its not difficult to see...

Also, slightly worried our Board might think this is just a manager/coaching staff problem.... Its a player problem first and foremost

To be fair it does also ask about the players, Moshiri is lasing up his boots ready to give a good arl arse kicking to everyone who was involved in blowing his money

..my concern is that this sets a precedent. If the club do it now do they do it at the end of every season. There are times when it pays to stay with a manager (I’m not advocating that now), had this happened at a time in the 80s Howard Kendall might have been shown the door.

The owner should’ve had a strategy in mind when he appointed Allardyce. Perhaps that strategy was for a stable 18months whilst the ground build developed. Perhaps he now senses the disquiet and wants to gauge feeling, I think i’d prefer it if he just did what he feels is the right thing to do.

This is my concern. Whatever about the dislike of Allardyce and feeling he is doing a poor job, I don't think this will be well received amongst other managers, including those who might be at the end of this themselves if they saw themselves coming here.

If its Fonseca or anyone else having a rough patch next season (inevitable), is another survey brought out then? If there is no survey, are we to conclude that the manager of the day is thought to be doing ok?

There is a big difference IMO between canvassing fans opinion on the new stadium for example, versus this. I'm all for engagement and democracy but I don't think this is an appropriate area for it.

We need strong, resolute, almost dictatorial leadership at this stage from Moshiri, not this type of hiding.

Good points.

Here's an alternative conjecture - the survey is a one off because it's Moshiri-commisioned to oust Kerwright et al. And can be explained as such to new future managers.

nonsense re. Martinez, many actively wanted him gone in his second season.

Except there's £2m in prize money per place in the premier league this year. So £12m that could go a long way towards paying off Allardyce and bringing in a new guy?

It's also easier to recruit if you're telling ambitious players, come and join the 8th best team and help us push into the top 6/4 etc.

Surely those factors outweigh what you'd learn from a couple of games playing fringe players?

If you're gonna blow millions and millions of pounds on something, you should probably learn abit about it first.... Basics like needing a new striker after selling your only goalscorer, and not buying 4 players for the one position aren't that hard...

this is a first for me and confusing , it shows the lack of confidence the Board have in their decision making and leadership , the concern is there are a number of critical decisions on the horizon , who is exactly do we have that is qualified to make those calls ?

I think it's great. Can't understand why people are criticising the club for final asking for input on stuff that actually matters.

Cannot wait to see Allardyce’s face on Friday morning when he gets asked what he thinks about his bosses asking the fans to rate him on a scale of ZERO to ten lol

Bet there’s not a journo in the room with balls big enough to ask the question!

Find it odd some people are finding outrage in this. I can't see anything negative in it. Can't be sure it'll be positive but looks like they wanna know what we think. Which is nice.

Talksport (Jim White!) slagging it off this morning! Ridiculous really as for ages they have spouted off how football clubs don’t care and don’t listen to their fans!

So Everton send this out to Season Ticket holders and Club members and get pelters for it!

Man Ure or the Kopites do it and it’ll be acclaimed as marketing genius - may be all their tourist fans could fill it in on a match day while they’re sat there in their half and half scarves taking pictures on their iPads!

We had a fans surve last year under Koeman with boing 7 th it went under the radar - oh the football was a lot better too we had Lakaku and a fit Ross Barkley!
This time the football is absolutely crap!

If Liverpool done it we would be slating them for it. I’m a ST and never got one so don’t really know all the questions, but seems like a kop out to me. An excuse for the board to get rid using it as an excuse and not having the bottle to just simply do it.

If the board don’t know the fans feelings on Allardyce withouta survey then that just shows how clueless they are.

The same survey was done last year for Koeman!
