I'm a Sunderland supporter and I'm interested in your crowd.

I was at our match on Saturday at the stadium of light and our fans were heading to the concourse area after 34 minutes before half time and leaving the ground after 80 minutes (even though we were winning 3-1!!)

This happens, every home game so I'm wondering, if other supporters do something similar. Do your fans do the same as ours do at Goodison?

I live in Leeds and used to live near Elland Road. The bus I got home from work went right past the stadium and as much as 2 hours before the game the streets along the route would be completely full of parked cars for the game. However, if I went past the ground on a bus 15 minutes before a match ended there would be loads of free spaces and people literally legging it out of the ground to their cars. It's an attitude I will never understand, getting to a stadium ages before a match starts then leaving before the end to avoid being in a bit of traffic. Bizarre.

The half time thing definitely happens here. Can’t say I’ve noticed a lot leaving early, you will always get a few due to trave etc.

wouldnt the 3 hour each way drive suggest that you should actually stay the full game and make the travel worth it?

Problem is I have to do a lot of presenting at work, my voice / vocal chords simply cannot cope with more than 5 mins of booing anyway.

The half time thing is definitely an issue in the Paddock. We normally rotate a designated beer monkey to go down for the pints at around 35 mins, so we might have ale to hand when the half time whistle goes.

If the result is clear 10 mins before full time loads will get off. It certainly makes a difference at Kirkdale Station . Another thing is I sit just behind the hospitality seats and they are bobbing up and down to the bogs all the game.

The trouble with leaving early these days, is that with all the mad added time, you could well miss 20 mins of the game!

I’ll always stay to the bitter end, no matter what the score is.

The last time I left 5 mins before HT the pies were still cold and the beer still warm. There's no point in leaving early.

really don’t understand leaving early. to go sit in the pub? to get into the traffic quicker? you’re going the match, you’re out for the day

i usually stick around in the ground till they ask you to leave. never know if it’ll be my last time in there

I once left at 86 minutes in a game against Sunderland because I saw Aiden McGeady coming on for us at 2-0 down.

86 minutes too late.

I live down south so the most I’ve ever gone to Goodison in a season is I reckon four times as it’s an expensive all day trip so I’ve never left my seat a second before half time or full time whistle and my god have I been to some awful games (my last four are probably our worst losses in the last three years)

BUT for all the more local lads and lasses who can go every week and it’s not as special an occasion I can absolutely see why they’d get off early
