If we sell for less than the release fee four days before the end of the transfer window then I quit football, as it'd be abundantly clear that Everton are hopeless at everything.

Not at all mate, i'm simply saying that the evidence (player sales and interest from other clubs) clearly shows that he isn't worth £25m in today's market, which is what you said. If he was there would have been more interest in him than there has been. Baines for example is priceless to us but in today's market would not fetch more than £20m, because fullbacks just don't go for massive money.

Just look at some of the transfers that have happened this window. Paulinho for £15m. Is Fellaini worth £10m more than him ?

Then the problem isn't how much we're selling for, but for how much we're likely to be buying for. We overpaid for Fellaini in the first place and we're paying for that now. And if we pay £15m for McCarthy we're only repeating the mistake. £15m shouldn't be spent on a 'good' player with potential to be great, it should be spent on a great player.

Next Summer he'd have two years left on his contract, which means we would have to look to sell him then to avoid a price drop. That already puts the potential buyers in a stronger position.

But at the moment he has three years left, so don't sweat it. If we think like that then we might as well sell Barkley while we're at it.

Martinez has specifically said, multiple times, in numerous press conferences, the club will not sell below the release clause fee.

So unless something has drastically changed, all of these stories are BS.

Is he worth £10m more than Paulinho ?

Still waiting for those stats lad ffs

Spurs paid £17m for him & he'd never played in the PL

In any case I'm not ****ing arsed what Spurs paid for him we're about to sell a unique top drawer PL player for relative buttons when under zero pressure to so....... but never mind McCarthy's coming to fill the void ffs

I think the problem people are having over the reported 20m+ fee for Felli is the 15m fee we overpaid for him. If we had paid 8-10 mill for him would the 20m+ look so bad?

Yes mate in my opinion it would still be a ****e bit of business. I think we overpaid for him by 3m but he has been a great signing and looking back now 15m isn't the worse bit of business we have ever done. To say 16m is derisory and supposedly accept 20m would be a ****ing joke. We have to stand up to bellends like Utd and not take it up the ****ter. Conversation goes "we want 25m for Fellaini up front" Utd reply "how about we give u 20m for Fellaini and we will let u keep Baines". Everton say "yeah thats nice of you and the Everton fans will be chuffed that Baines is staying so wont mind you have under valued our best midfielder".
