how is the zonal marking supposed to work in that situation? Surely even in a zonal system Distin should slide to the unmarked man, especially when he happens to be their most dangerous player.

There's no way zonal marking is that flawed as a strategy, we have to be executing it incorrectly

Well the big man isn't a part of every team we play, more a threat which we don't expect, I would think its probably more difficult to adapt to.

Chopping and changing tactics to suit the opposition isn't one of Moyes strong points..
