That's interesting. Totally never knew that was the reason.
Does this mean we are stuck with it like this forever?
Why would we have to have a Derby every calendar year anyway?
FTR we werehome first a lot in the past as well.62-63 69-70 85-86 86-87 Andy King Derby etc. The only ones which stick out not being home first are 84-85 and Campbell's winner at The Pit.
I think for those who rely on increased match day income would be keen to have at least one a year.
I have no idea if it means we're stuck with it. If they get relegated we couldn't play them so could change then. Which means it's not concrete that we'll play once a year. But whoever wrote the algorithms for the fixture creating computer programme obviously sees it as a factor.
Is similar to why we quite often play Sunderland on boxing day. Don't want to make people travel too far but also don't want to make it a (possibly) heated rivalry (Liverpool or Manchester team) when people will be drinking twice as much. There are only a few teams that fit the parameters.
I think we've got an excellent December. Low demand oppos at a time of the year when attendances are normally down. Wouldn't want Sunderland (who normally bring a big crowd anyway) on Boxing Day..
See how our European group looks next.
Any game could change. Television and Europa league will dictate this. For a November game you won't know for sure til early October
At least our season starts with a nice relaxing AHH!! Then followed by two eureka moments, AHA! AHA!
