english law is hypocritical, the man on the street can be pushed and there are no consequences, the man on the street can be pushed by a policeman and there are certainly no consequences in that case, but 'lay your hands' on an officer and there is a cocktail of charges - assault - affray - assaulting an officer - common assault - the list goes on. and strangely enough fellow officers back them up to the hilt.
