Look at the England team man for man. They really aren't exceptional at all. The two holding MFs are basically Championship players. The back four have mistakes in them when facing class opposition. The GK - I have no need to remind you - can unravel in an instant. The forwards are dangerous, for sure. But overall this is not a team to be feared. Denmark and Italy are both a cut above.

I expect England to fold tonight.

I continue to disagree with this plan, except against Italy.

Against anyone else the way you solve the back four problem is go balls to the walls and score 5 with all that weaponry moldering on the bench. Playing for 1-0 lets fate into the game, so you only do that if you can't score 5.

Against Italy you lose 3-2 that way, because you can't outscore that defense by going all-out attack. Enrique tried because he had to, but it can't be done with anything short of Pele and his band of merry Brazilians.

I make Denmark the favourites today. The match is being broadcast on ITV, the English media has been embarrassing yet again so they’ll be inspired by that, their Viking Spirit, with the knowledge that Valhalla awaits them and the spirit of Christian Eriksen. We all know England V Italy IS the final we want and deserve but Danes my spoil the party. UEFA want it badly, they want to write that fairytale story, Eriksen going the final in civvies, camera zooming on him crying etc. All the best to him and speedy recovery but enough already..
