We have the players to give it a good go, if they are all fit and available. But Clarke still can’t fathom that we need a defensive midfielder in the middle of the park.

As far as the playoffs go, for Path A and a spot in Group D, Wales face Finland while Poland face Estonia with the winners facing off either in Cardiff or Helsinki

For Path B and a spot in Group E, Bosnia and Herzegovina face Ukraine while Israel meet Iceland with the final game taking place either in Zenica or an alternate ‘home’ (if Ukraine)

For Path C and a place in Group F, Georgia face Luxembourg while Greece meet Kazakhstan with the final being in either Tbilisi or Luxembourg City
