Why isn't something as important as this, have a required minimum percentage, of say 65%? So that most of the country needs to be in agreement for something which will affect us all? As it is, a tiny bit over half, isn't fair, in my opinion, as half don't want the change.

Maybe you should be asking why Cameron allowed this to happen?

There's so, so much I dislike about the EU - but I'm speechless.

I guess the best we can now hope for is some huge, huge offer from the EU to remain a member with significant concessions on immigrations.

I'd just like to remind everybody that this is all happening because it was politically expedient for Cameron to promise it back in last year's election.

Just in case you think politics don't matter or something like that

It's happening because people have voted for it to happen. Let's not try and absolve the British people of any responsibility by shifting the blame to Cameron. Like the result or not (and I really don't!), this is the most raw form of democracy in action.

Should be asking the person on the street who voted it why they're so uneducated.

They fell for Johnson's BS - which he's been spinning on the EU since he was the Telegraph's Brussels Correspondent (after The Times binned him) - but the hoi polloi wouldn't know or care about that. Nor would they care about idiots like Farage and Gove - some of the electorate fell for their misguided rhetoric and now we've all got to live with it. This was no election with a 5 year consequence of a poor call. This was a lifetime of relying on the Government to manage the state better in a single venture than a joint one with the EU. Let's be honest the state can't be relied upon - it wasn't brilliant pre 1973 and it won't be brilliant after today either.

Should be asking the person on the street who voted it why they're so uneducated.

Maybe the government should have shown the benefit over the years rather then the last few weeks.
Cameron and his party have failed and we should have been prepared for this, most people I spoke to were voting leave.
Can the government goes against the vote?
