The classic “I’m alright jack” attitude that’s got this country into the state it’s in now.
I'm alright Jack? Ha ha. Hardly anyone uses data anymore because of WiFi.

Don't get salty at me or brexit. These companies all promised to not add charges after the vote. They lied.

"get over it" has seemlessly replaced "project fear" it seems
The bottom line is, that there is no negative outcome that would be considered too high a price to pay for the Brexiteers.

The “project fear” campaign was doomed to failure, because it assumed its target audience would be rational and consider reasoned argument as to why remain was a preferable option.

When dealing with fundamentalists who care not about the consequences (to themselves or others), the argument was lost before it started.

EE officially bringing back roaming charges for Brits in the EU as of next month (for whenever it becomes relevant). Another Brexit bonus putting extra £££s in everyone's pockets!

EE of course, had "no plans" to do this. They never said they wouldn't, but just at the time of asking had "no plans". So keep an eye on all those other things that companies, and indeed the government, had "no plans" to change. Like all those workers' rights that were part of EU law.

Didn't you hear, we should just get over it.

We should stop complaining and critiquing the government and their decisions. We should all bow in front of our overlords and the infinite wisdom they possess.

It only delights them because they've not yet been shafted by Boris and chums. Boris is on a sticky wicket with Sunak wanting to increase taxes and cut spending to balance the books due to the pandemic spending. Tax and cut too far and the post Brexit levelling up agenda simply won't materialise. We are also one more crisis away from severe food shortages in the UK, Boris and chums have been utterly reckless with fishing and farming, our food security is now at its lowest point ever. The chickens will come home to roost just when not if. There will always be diehards who will pretend they are "Dig f or Britain" type.

The thing is, these relatively small changes seem like nothing. That ‘it hardly effects anyone’ argument is easy to make. But in aggregate, once you consider this kinda thing is happening all over the place, these little stories add up to create a genuine headwind for the UK. It’s these small frictional costs, in aggregate, over time that will have a genuine effect on everyone. Lower disposable income, lower demand, lower productivity, lower wage inflation, lower standard of living.

It doesn’t need to be one big massive thing that makes a difference. It’s death by a thousand paper cuts. It’s especially hard to see right now because of the pandemic, but the impact is already there. It’s already happening.
