That we're a few days out from a seemingly no deal Brexit and the vaunted lorry park doesn't even have any amenities is hugely damning.
Unfortunately, these drivers will know this as normal. Every council treats them as scum, they have no provisions outside of service stations. There was a time when being a lorry driver was a valued profession, people forget that they are humans. These guys have set off to deliver goods we all want and rely on, they will just want to be home with their families at Christmas. If disruption brings a change for them, then its badly overdue.

You would probably have to ask Macron. But now that you are firmly in the leave camp, you surely understand why countries might want to close their borders to strangers coming over the sea?
With the immigration points system we will probably get more people from abroad. Here's to a diverse fully skilled workforce

No blame on Macron and the French government. They are the ones who closed the Dover route why now, When it has been raging there for the last month

TBF lorry driver has never been a valued profession, at least when viewed against their obvious importance.

The nature of the work tends to preclude unionisation and it’s relatively easy to get people to scab anyway, which has led to this state of affairs where lots are exploited directly by employers (who are operating really tight margins thanks to rabid competition from domestic and foreign rivals) and all of them have to put up with these sorts of conditions.

In a more just and sensibly run world we’d turn more to rail freight and only use lorries for short haul trips, but obviously more people would be better off by that so we have this instead.

Its a bigger problem than just this month, it has been getting worse for over 10 years, long before brexit was a thing. I personally feel its disgusting to treat these guys as political pawns. They spend weeks on the road, Christmas is one time they get to be home with their loved ones. Closing I agree is totally wrong, but it is the UK side that hasn't given them toilets. I have no idea on the French side but there will be just as many struggling on that side to get home.

Actually you're right mate, everything will be far better than it was before. All those who are fearful need only look at the incredible job Bojo has done and the detailed plans he has put in place. Lol

I disagree on valued profession, though maybe I'm a little older. :)

But you are right when you talk of lowering margins. That's both a plus and a negative of being in the common market. Having ran an outloading operation for a few years, I feel for them at this time of year especially.

As a former HGV driver it's a tough job. Me I personally blame Macron and the French government. If it was the fault of our government I would say so. But it isn't this time it's purely Macron

As a former HGV driver myself, surprisingly, I found it a very easy job and all the problems to actually be the fault of Euro Trucking Simulator making everyone a backseat lorry driver. If it was the fault of anyone else I'd say so. But it isn't this time it's purely video game simulators.
