Meanwhile, the 'Australian' style point system is seeing several rugby league stars having to go back down under because their visas have run out, including Sonny Bill Williams, who is on about $5 million a year and is/was one of the biggest names in the sport. Cracking job Priti.

Not sure what this has to do with Brexit Bruce, Not sure what it has to do with Priti either given her bill hasn't even been passed yet

I saw it this morning; its a few 6 month Visas getting close to their expiry date. (which were extended cos of lockdown anyrate).

It's a pickle mate. There's a paper in the Lancet today (can't remember if I linked it earlier), basically saying the world's population is due to peak in a few decades due to low birth rates. Perhaps more importantly though is that the working-age population is likely to shrink significantly across the western world, unless either a significant change in birth rates is achieved, or immigration is increased. Yet we've painted ourselves into a corner whereby we view migration as a bad thing that needs to be 'managed'.

You only have to look at America to see what an arse they're making of things. Very smart students whose courses have been put online have had their visas scrapped, only for them to be reinstated after industry and academia threatened to sue the government. Why on earth we have this notion that some divvy in Whitehall can sit in judgement over someone's life is beyond me.

Yeah, I saw that link. And I share your view on immigration pretty much.

But I think the RL visa story was 95% lock down based. And muddied by the players affected playing for a club in Canada.

It's the 'managed' migration that people voted for in the belief that it's somehow better than free movement.
There's never been free movement for New Zealander's. in fact under the new system it will be far easier for New Zealander's to get long term working visas so Sonny will be better off under Priti

You'll have to forgive me if I find that unlikely.
I forgive you Bruce

The Priti bill is far from perfect. But 2 outcomes that are assured are that it will be a lot harder to work in the Uk from within the EU, but easier if you come from elsewhere in the world.

I know that doesn't fit your narrative but it doesn't make it any less true

Cant see why making it hard to come to the UK to work is in any way a good thing if I am honest.

It's quite clearly been made much harder for EU citizens to move here, but how has it been made easier for non-EU citizens? I thought their criteria was much as it was before.
