So Farage uses his farewell speech to lambast the EU. Could have been copied and pasted from some posts on here, and frankly that embarrassing his mic was cut off.

After the ratification vote, the MEPs from across the continent sang Auld Lang Sine (sic). Which is an appreciation of long and valued friendships in essence.

Classy man that has sold many, 17.4 million I think, an absolute pup.

But hey, "we" won.
The man has rinsed the system for 20 years and will benefit from a massive pension as of next week.

He had the temerity to pontificate about the EU gravytrain whilst spending 2 decades riding it. Who can forget his boastful interview from a decade or so ago, when he said he earned around the same as a Goldman Sachs banker by the time he’d employed his Mrs and used “the games we play” to maximise his expenses.

The man is nothing more than a grubby racist horror, who sold himself to the gullible with his supposed love of a pint and 20 B&H. He’ll be judged by history as an absolute stain.

Just for the benefit of those claiming we have 'independence' on 1st Feb...we will be less independent than we were a day before :bye:

First Step...the important step...this is not about point scoring as you seem to think. This is a major change in our relationship with the Eu. You can deny or dress it up as you will, but we effectively leave the EU legally on Friday Night. A transition period is just that, a period while transitioning fully away from the EU. I watched some of the EU Parliament presentations and apart from the Lib Dem’s, Greens, Labour, SNP and Sinn Fein, the rest of Europe spoke well. It’s just a pity that our own permanent remoaners still don’t get it, still don’t accept the democratic votes and still don’t want to see us succeed......

Highlighting the fact that during transition we will be less independent than we previously were doesn't really change much in terms of Brexit as you've stated.

I do struggle with those, as has been shown throughout this thread, either declaring a great triumph in leaving as though we've been under subjugation from the EU in recent times or claiming a great victory in defeating those reminding them of potential dangers of the decision or asking what they actually want.

I have further concern that what has been won is actually not been defined by leavers. Remaining in the EU brought some certainty. The medium-to-long-term future of UK and EU is now entirely up for grabs. The relationship can move in a number of directions which don't really have any priority over another. Regardless of what the result was, there needed to be a debate about the ongoing relationship between the UK and the EU which some on the remain side don't seem to recognise, but whether you will admit it or not, the country was completely unprepared for the referendum result.

I'm still struggling to understand what has been won and what the intentions of the UK are out of the EU: the trading strategy, the political strategy, the social strategy. People united around 'get Brexit done' but now is where the actual work is done and the relationship will be properly established. Slogans and inflammatory rhetoric doesn't translate to trade negotiations, but we should probably start to establish what it is that we want to desperately do that we couldn't do while in the EU.
