Boris will be caught out with something in the near future or something from his past catches up with him

I look forward to the day
Nah, he's teflon mate. Plenty of the things that have come out about him would've sunk other politicians because while he's proven to be a philandering racist thug as well and an utter incompetent at anything other than increasing his own political power BoRiS iS jOkEs LoL iNnIt. gEt BrExIt DoNe

I still can't see viable reasons that aren't pipe dreams for leaving but doesn't matter if it goes badly, no lessons will be learned. They never are.

Our public services have been undeniably falling apart for years and the voting public's response was to overwhelmingly vote for the same people who are responsible.

No one will take responsibility for this in the future it will be all finger pointing and blame game stuff just like we have now. The problem is, the difficulties that Brexit will create won't be large single and easy to quantify. What the modern populists have realised is that the vast majority of the electorate don't pay attention to the details.

Unless the country crumbles and sinks into the sea, there will still be 40% of people who will argue that Brexit is great. Evidence increasingly holds less and less weight and the people on the street can find whatever truth they want.

All we will have is the same pointless arguments about which leader would be best to have a pint with and never a consensus that Brexit is self sabotage and needless.

We are witnessing divide and conquer before our very eyes and the response is ''you lost get over it''. People think we are going to unleash Britain's potential whilst not realising we aren't opening doors here we are closing them. By what metric would Brexit go well? By what mechanism would it facilitate that success? We are not restrained in any meaningful way by the EU, so being 'unleashed' as Johnson loves to say is impossible.

I’m still slightly in awe that so many people are still dismissing Boris as a lightweight/buffoon/idiot. More fool them.. Johnson, as we have discussed on these pages before, is one of the smartest and most astute political operators of the post war period. He has proven himself as a both a formidable and likeable politician - a deadly combination. Some political commentators have drawn parallels with Churchill.. and not too surprisingly as Johnson studied and even wrote a book on Churchill. The man has done his homework.
The first step on the road to winning is to understand your opponent and to understand the game. Labour haven’t even understood what they are up against.

You know your place...

I voted Remain, and would do again tomorrow, but, from an economic standpoint, the EU has gradually become less important to us over the years, and that trend would likely continue if we stayed in, as is borne out by ...

Just want the circus to end, somehow.

I do have a bit respect for tories posting on these pages as you are in the minority here and likely to get dogs abuse. Can’t agree with this assessment though. He’s a proven liar with no morals, compassion or principles.

man in utter servitude to murdoch achieves things despite showing his sheer incompetence regularly to such an extent he actually he to hide from being interviewed before a general election, just one of the things you can get away with when 90 percent of the media back you

As do the vast majority of people.

Sadly, in the short term at least, that's likely to mean more pain than gain for most people. Longer term ( at least ten years down the line, and probably longer ) depending on whether the EC reform themselves or not, we may well end up better off Out than In.

But, unless you're tied into businesses which aren't EC centric, then it's likely to be tough going, and will need government intervention ( in the form of cash ) to soften the blow.

Yeah I know. I guess we will see an end to the political impasse though, so small mercies.
That's like giving one of your children a knife to stop a fist fight.

I know you'll say it's none of my business but voting on a single issue such a Brexit is completely irrational. All it means is there is now no legal route to stop it. It will still dominate most political discussion, the only difference being that you'll have different sectors competing to be the ones that aren't 'run down' or deregulated to the point that all worker protection is lost or public protection is diminished. All the while, being sold a repacked deal that everyone was told was awful but now is great because it's got Johnson telling you it's oven ready (so oven ready btw he's still got chance to change the ingredients before putting it in the oven!).

Meanwhile, the Tories can continue their hostile environment, reduce workers rights, reduce rights for renters, reduce public services, play parts of society off against each other and currently, run roughshod over the UK democratic institutions.

Now that it is happening, I hope that those Remainers who have been fighting this losing battle get behind Boris in trying to get a proper deal done...it’s in all our interests......

Personally, it'll be a very sad day when we leave. I've always thought of myself as a European.

Also, it's clear to some of us that 'the deal' that Boris has been pursuing from day one, i.e. deregulation is definitely not in all of our interests. Yes, new markets will open up I'm sure and a lot of wealth will be generated somewhere, but there's definitely a lot of choppy waters ahead. Almost certain job losses and misery for many people who just want to get on with living a decent standard of life.
