Western women are obliged to wear a headscarf in Muslim states and no one complains about racism, so why should it be different the other way round? It's about having respect for the country you are visiting or living in. The French are well within their rights. The problem with Muslims is they want their cake and eat it. I'm not against the Muslim faith, I'm against all religion. We all know right from wrong and that should be a code to live by regardless of where we are from.

We're supposed to be tolerant aren't we? I see no more reason to be bothered by a lady wearing Muslim attire than I am by Tom Davies wearing the stuff he wears. Not really anyone elses business, is it?

Five other EU countries ban the Burka - The present PMs comments were crass instead of just stating practical facts on why he disagrees with the Burka in a practical way.......not a racist way ......

A. All women are required to wear a headscarf, not just Western (I assume here you mean white but think that Western sounds less controversial) women.
B. It's only really Saudi Arabia and Iran where it is a requirement, the majority of Muslim countries don't have laws that require women to wear religious clothing in public.
C. You don't generate tolerance and further individual freedoms by looking at something that is deemed regressive and using at as the basis for your own actions.

He said 'they look like letterboxes'. How is that contributing to or furthering the debate?

It's crude, it's a dog whistle to racists and bigots and plenty of people have made similar concerns about full face covering without demeaning and ridicule.

If so, irrespective of your view on the actual policy, that would be 6 member states making their own rules, would it not?
