Yes with our contributions to the EU.... personally coming home it is thriving , but the magic of the community is not there imo......
doing our deals worldwide I am young enough pre EU to know how the cost of living was cheaper you're not I take it.....

I would envisage the cost of living would be cheaper in 1973, yes. There have been any number of factors driving this. A workforce where women don't stay at work has increased people's buying power but also pushed up prices of housing (which now requires two people working to buy a house), for example. Housing is largely what drives cost of living increases... Now, wages by and large kept pace with that until the crisis of 2008 when they stagnated (a problem we're still dealing with). But this is a problem in every country that doesn't have a mandated inflationary raise every year (most countries in Western Europe do). This isn't a function of the EU.
In fact, the EU have done more for worker's rights and protections in Britain than any government since the 1960s.

Indeed. I've largely stayed out of Current Affairs since joining. Arguing politics with people is less enjoyable than arguing football.

...one of the things that makes me realise Churchill was right when he said democracy is the worst form of government, apart from all the others, is that people who literally can't spell democracy get to pontificate on it's finer workings.
