Did you ever truly listen to Wogan's commentaries? He was at times utterly scornful of and patronising to some of the smaller countries having the audacity to compete. It's telling that when I used to get excited about the contest coming up people would say "it's naff but I like Wogan". I bet all the people that said that voted to Leave.

It's a bid sad to me that Norton has essentially picked up the same schtick. The semi finals are a lot better with BBC presenters who actualy respect the competition and performers. Norton had a pop at the lead singer of Sunstroke Project (who were jointly billed with Olia Tira, a solo singer) for daring to sing with Olia, seemingly unaware of what a 'duet' is, I think he was suggesting she was annoyed he was 'joining in' though I can't find the clip.

I’ve been to most countries in Europe as an English man. Never had any problems. Tend to find people are generally decent to you as long as you’re not a [Poor language removed]. Think we can all learn something from that in these turbulent times...

But you are both talking about different things, OBWD effectively about how the state is seen and JJ about individuals....
