I still think we could have stayed within the EU, maintained those economic benefits yet still been able to gain agreement on more stringent border controls. We have already witnessed the steady collapse of the Schengen area over the last 18 months due to the refugee migration crisis. Therefore I believe we would have found support and understanding ears within the EU community, coupled with hard negotiation, diplomacy and a degree of concessions we would have been able to achieve that goal

Just take the time to watch this. This is about the loss of influence in the EU. Yes, it is advocating 'Leave', but I believe cogent points are made on the issue. Watch this, and realise that hard negotiation, diplomacy, and concessions are NOT what we would have been able to do, or achieve, had we voted to remain...

Value of my house has fallen 5% since the vote. Well every house in the area according to Zoopla. Petrol prices going to go up again.

Hard to see positives when this is costing the average Joe thousands.

If you are not selling then it doesn't matter. If you are selling then the price of the one you are buying will also come down by 5%. if you are buying for the first time then prices being 5% lower is good. What's the problem......

Like the above has never happened before. Jeez, how old are you? Were you around during the massive negative equity phase in housing in the early 1990s? Petrol prices rocketing some years ago to the extent that lorry companies drove into London en masse in a massive protest?

Bullshit crocodile tears from a Remainer, I say...

From the link, Bruce, this seems to be the core of the issue:
"...The heart of Rodrik's argument is a fundamental 'trilemma': that we cannot simultaneously pursue democracy, national self-determination, and economic globalization. Give too much power to governments, and you have protectionism. Give markets too much freedom, and you have an unstable world economy with little social and political support from those it is supposed to help..."
Interesting.

Interesting.

I referenced it in an earlier post as an Economist article this week looks at the issue. It talks of Rodrik's work together with that of a number of other economists to examine the apparent disillusionment with globalization around the world.

If you think the current situation caused by investment uncertainty is bad, wait until we actually leave and the jobs start going.
Unfortunately basic economics will be portrayed as "project fear" by leave proponents.

It'll be good for young first time buyers. Were leaving the EU, it's time to start being pragmatic and optimistic. Time for the doom and gloomers to start looking for the opportunities that arise from leaving.

This effects everybody. Some Leave voters, including your good self, are staggering in your refusal to see how everyone is going to have to pay for this. I was really on the fence beforehand but after the event it's so obvious it has been a disaster.

Yes, the silver linings are vital now. Hopefully this will help first time buyers get on the property ladder.

How so, what has happened to make it 'so evident'.......

House prices falling, exchange rates plunging, petrol prices rising, the desperation of the youth in the country after the grey vote took away their future, the outbreaks of open racism towards the migrant community...
