Your laughing at the important topic you posted Bruce - where you upset when Scottish Citizens, working and living in the UK could not vote in the Scottish independence referendum -
Scots living outside Scotland, including the approximately 800,000 living in the other parts of the UK. were not able to vote.......
two wrongs in your case do not make it right!
I agree if a EU member has been here for a considerable length of time paid taxes, and NI why should they be refused a vote?
Obviously it would need to be sorted out, but to deny them a vote is harsh imo if they meet any fair criteria set down by the UK government....

The Scottish vote was open to Scottish residents, so anyone living in Scotland could vote. No idea who made the rules though.

no scottish person could vye if living in the UK 800,000 of them The SNP did not want it either......

Yeah I know. But 400,000 non Scots living in Scotland could vote. And the winning margin was about 400,000.

For an Independence vote, I follow the logic of it, (residents only), but Ex Pats can still vote in a GE after all. Seems a bit random to me.

The SNP were opposed to expats voting why ? they trade 60% with us, and a very low amount with the EU.......

Scotland's main outlet for trade. Sales to the rest of the UK made up 60% of the total exports from Scotland, with the EU and rest of the world accounting for 18% and 22% respectively.31 Jan 2019 .......

But but... Surely you must have changed your mind now you've seen they were all lies.;)

Pete, I disagree with you and Frank and Joey as regards a no deal Brexit. I do think it will be harmful to the country, at least initially, but nowhere near as bad as all the scare mongers will have you believe. But worse than that, I think it would just serve to divide the country even more, in much the same way as staying in the EU would.

I believe the only long term solution to this is for a compromise on a softer Brexit. Nobody get's everything that they want, but neither side has fully lost either. May's deal is about as hard a Brexit as we're likely to get without a complete change of personnel in Parliament. The likelihood is it will need to be even softer to get the support it needs from Labour to pass through parliament.

I actually don't see it happening short term and reckon we'll be going back to the EU requesting a further extension in October. A general election this year, or early next year, is likely to bring an even more hung parliament with the popular vote spread over 5 parties rather than just the normal 2. I can see this stalemate possibly lasting for years.

I’ve always said there would be short term pain, there always is when setting out to improve. Our politicians are not fit for purpose and I hope this provides the basis for getting rid of most of them and starting agin.....

On the other hand, Joseph Goebells did write:

"The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, it should be a big lie, and one should stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous."

So it’s essentially a made up quote used by fascists to undermine criticism of them as being er ‘facist’ Oh dear.

Like "rivers of blood"?

Not really, Powell did come towards the end of his speech with

"As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding; like the Roman, I seem to see "the River Tiber foaming with much blood.""

So "Rivers of blood" pretty much sums it up.

Not much has divided Britain more than Enoch Powell himself.

OMG. Again! @dandydan taking a pasting off @JammyP here. I can barely watch...
