Don't encourage the moderators to close these threads because you can't keep it civil...

Moderators are less likely to let emotive, political threads run if our instinct is proven right time, and time again.

Last Friday a guy came into work and went straight up to the Swedish girl in my office and said 'when are you going home then?'. She proceeded to leave the office crying.

a serious side to this is during the 80s a lot of people from Liverpool went where the work was, mainly down south, and, iirc, in Bournemouth the mayor complained of a surge in crime due to the 'migrant workers from Liverpool' (sic), again iirc, there were protests and posters on bus stops about it.
