Without going into conspiracy theories and such, so many experts are saying we should stay otherwise the country will be isolated and go to the gutter, If that is truly the case then even if people vote out, surely it makes sense for the powers that be to say no we are staying ?

I know we live in a democracy were the people have a say but surely if leaving the EU is going to be so bad, then the government should stand strong and refuse us the option of leaving ? Sounds mad I know, but the government need to do what's best for the country - or does that then go against being a democracy ?

I don't get into politics as I find it to be full of scare mongering, selfishness, corruption and the idea of listening to them all in the house of commons acting like big kids scoring cheap points is laughable if it weren't so serious.
I see three potential outcomes if Leave wins.

1. We leave

2. The EU offer to return to the table to discuss terms to prevent the UK leaving

3. The PM rejects the outcome (it's only a glorified survey after all, not legally binding), and commits political hare-kare.

2 feels the most likely to me. In spite of all the bluster from Juncker et al, they're not just going to let one of their biggest, strongest members just walk away, and leave the EU incredibly fragile and open to subsequent refs from other member nations. And I think some bold reforms would satisfy all but the most extreme EU-haters.

The odds of a win only reflect how punters think the rest of the country will vote. It says nothing for how individuals intend to actually vote themselves.

those odds seem hugely swung tho. surely they wouldnt have it that far apart in a two horse race so to speak.

bookies are pretty confident we will remain in EU. actually they are dead certain!

I agree with you that 2 is likely (though the chances of bold reforms being offered are somewhere adjacent to zero), but don't forget Cameron is going to leave anyway so 3 can't be ruled out - the Tories can then defenestrate him and use the promise to honour the result of the referendum in the snap election that they will call afterwards.

I expect they have to be bold, it's how bookies work.

But if you did two polls:

How are you voting
How do you think the country will vote

You'll get very different results. Many of the polls conducted recently have had Leave by a few % in the former, yet Remain by several more % in the latter. It just shows that Leave voters aren't especially confident that they'll actually win.

its gotta be worth £25 on EU exit , just incase they are catastrophically wrong!

I hate this whole referendum, does my head in no end. Im first to admit I'm not even slightly schooled enough on the subject to make an informed decision, in-fact i think that probably applies to most of the population although a large portion of brits probably aren't self aware enough to realise this.

Literally every time i try and learn something about it i'll watch a video or read an article only to see lots of people in comments sections saying it's all nonsense and lies, so then i go and watch a video from their perspective and in that comments section you have people saying thats all nonsense and lies. Seems like every person has a counter argument pre-prepared and ready to go... no one ever wins because everyones always got a counter response.

Logic tells me that all the major financial institutions who are saying it would be a terrible idea to leave are more likely to know what they are talking about than the average joe but then you have countless people saying they are only saying this because of self interest etc. Who do i believe ?

I haven't got a clue whose chatting nonsense and whose legit. Im honestly leaning towards not voting simply because i don't feel educated enough on the subject for my vote to be worthy of helping decide what direction we go in.

It sounds snobbish but i feel like you should only be able to vote on this if you pass some kind of written test showing you are actually knowledgable on the subject.

This is my exact situation as well. I don't know enough about it as everywhere I look people are saying its lies, all I know are the majority of well respected people are voting remain, they know more than I do so I thin =k it may be best if I don't vote
