Look at recent history when different peoples have been forced together. Yugoslavia the most recent, how long did that last once the soviet boot was off their neck? Austria-hungary? In fact the only one I can think of that worked was Germany under prussian hegemony, and we all know what trouble that caused.
No one was forced to join the EU. In fact there's a queue as long as your arm waiting to get in. It is an organisation that exists for the mutual benefit of all its members.

The mindset that exists in the UK that people are being forced to do things against their will is both puzzling and laughable to the other 27 nations.

Do you think brexit will be the Downfall of Britain, and that it will break up as @The binman chronicles predicts

If that's your opinion, and I agree with it btw, isn't it better to be as far removed as possible from the mess that will happen?

In theory nothing much should happen apart from it being the end of an EU superstate. For instance say Le Pen gets elected as president of France, they then pull out of the EU, suddenly the schengen visa system doesn't work for people who want to drive/cycle through the countries. The EU would be forced to make concessions to try and keep that together. Whether that means caps for immigration or only allowed between certain tiers, less monetary contributions, individual countries high courts can overrule the EU courts etc. whatever it takes that keeps them happy enough to stay in the trading block will be negotiated.

We were far too much of a black sheep and uniquely geographically positioned to make them change anything but one or more of the larger countries kicks off on the continent then they will have no choice but wave the white flag.

No deal will will accelerate a referendum on Irish unity for certain and Scotland will demand another indy referendum which will likely be passed.

That's why the compromise solution which was reached in the Withdrawal Agreement was the most sensible one. Unfortunately there are neanderthals holding the balance of power who disagree and are too myopic to see that they are turkeys voting for Christmas.

We didn't choose to join what the EU is becoming though. It depends how far they plan to keep moving the nations closer. Having an army is an example of it. Now I'd rather be in that tent pissing out and having a veto on matters but it is still troubling none the less.

So an independent Scotland and unified Ireland..

Good or bad?

Have we ever vetoed any EU proposal?
