That is a bit of an odd argument for someone who keeps banging on about national security to make.

If there was a genuine and effective EU armed force, the Russians around Putin would be concerned (and they would be right to be, as the real weakness of the Russian position would be exposed) - but I don’t think the Russians as a whole would be.

In fact having a vibrant, rich and powerful collection of nations in the border would be much more likely to get a post-Putin leader to try to join it.

I agree with your last point but absolutely disagree with the need for another superpower army on the border of Russia. Even though many on here would prefer to forget it, and you are not one, it is worth remembering the millions that Russia lost at the hands of other Europeans.

I would love to see Russia as part of a European family.....

Perhaps someone needs to let them know them that "Great Britain" refers to the island on which the boundaries of England, Scotland and Wales are drawn. Nothing about make Britain "Great" again. Geographically speaking, that island already is.
