1,200 smugglers were arrested in northern France in 2017, according to the prefect responsible for security and defence, Jean-Christophe Bouvier.
Bouvier told Le Journal d’Abbeville: “In 2017 we arrested 1,200 smugglers and dismantled 40 sectors (smuggling rings). In January the figures are proportionally the same.
