Exactly the way the EU approached it with us, saying no, no, no to everything at first, May panics and starts giving them ground, the EU held firm all the way through, giving the impression there might be no deal when all along they wanted a deal, and the one proposed to them now by May is a cracker for them, that's why they have agreed it so fast.

We buy more goods from the EU than we sell to them, why were we not in the stronger position?, that's how the likes of Trump would have gone about negotiating, he'd have threatened increased tariffs on German and French cars and Macron and Merkel would have crapped themselves.

Way way too soft we've been.

It's not a good deal for them. They've been quite clear throughout that they see Britain leaving as a lose-lose for both parties. It's only a great deal in the Dad's Army, us v them view of the world that Brexiters seem to enjoy.

The problem is Joe, Trump runs the biggest economy in the world. They would not cave in as easily for the UK, they have no need.

I am fairly open on possibilities. I hope it's not a no deal, as getting to work for me would be almost impossible, I suspect my company would go out of business and I'd be out of work. However there are pro's. Lets not kid ourselves that our negotiating position is like the Americans though.
We buy more than we sell, we had the upper hand, 1000's of EU jobs depend on our trade, the Germans and French sell billions of pounds worth of cars to us each year.

If we are divorcing, it's a better deal for them than us, that's why they've agreed it so fast.

Test the EU's metal, vote it down in the commons and put no deal on the table, the way the EU have behaved with us throughout this I'd like there to be no deal, I think it may be a few years of pain for a hell of a lot of gain.

And remember, free movement of goods and easy trade is a priority for the EU as much as it is to us.

The very fact you seem so hari kari about a no deal highlights now little you understand about just what that means. The saddest thing is that every time it's been explained, even by fellow members on here who are part of the planning for it, it all gets discounted.

The thing is, as the reply below yours so aptly indicates, I don't think advocates of no deal have the slightest clue what it means. For instance, as of now, Britons have the same medical rights in the EU as they do at home. That would end with a no deal, so there seems a very real prospect of all the retirees in the Costa del Sol returning to Britain as they won't be able to afford health insurance. That's around 150,000 people in Spain alone.

Many of the things outlined in the various no deal scenarios could easily be avoided with sufficient good will, but flicking the v at the EU seems a funny way of establishing such good will to me.

TBH Brexit would be almost worth it if the biggest victims were retirees and especially the I QUIT BRITAIN BECAUSE OF IMMIGRANTS AND MOVED TO SPAIN crowd.

To be Frank mate, like you've seen, there is very little true constructive engagement from the leavers and there's no common vision of what's to be attained as a consequence of leaving. Some Spiv's have ran with the opportunity of Thatcherism on steroids and this gets some support, but I'm sure most who voted leave weren't thinking about 3000quid for an ambulance to hospital and reduced worker's rights that their ancestors fought for way back when...
As i stated in the first couple of pages, imo, most of the fault lies with our own government and their implementation of eu directives. The EU isn't perfect by any means, but for the time being, we need to get our own house in order before giving them more power.
