I tried to keep up with all this in the van, but only really got bits and bobs, and ministers resigning all over the shop.

But this deal isnt a final deal is it? Its like a work in progress, allowing us and the EU to trade still, until we work through other stuff. The sticking point being that the UK cant leave this temporary arrangement without the EU agreeing?

yes mate close,
its the exit deal, the trade deal ect comes after it, only trouble is short of May offering blow jobs all around to any body that wanted one in Brussels we have nothing left to offer them , we wouldn't be in a very good starting position,
also we cant just leave when we want we would have to get an agreement from the EU to do so

I can’t believe may doesn’t want the best possible deal , I can’t stand the woman but she can’t want this . It’s car crash stuff , if there is a better deal why doesn’t she get it . I just struggle to understand why she’d torpedo her own political career and frankly her legacy .

She probably believes in this deal in respect it keeps the status quo until we are in a position to leave (Like NI votes to leave the UK or the customs technology becomes available to have no borders), but it's just another kick the can down the road so it becomes someone else's problems.

As she can only go down from here I don't think she is worried about her political career, in reality that ended after the last election.

I don't chime in often in this thread but the agreement looks dead already.

It's impossible to see a politically viable alternative so the only solution appears to be a 2nd referendum on the agreement.

I think if called, the agreement as is would be accepted in a popular vote as the best that could be achieved.

There will be quite some chaos to come though.

This is surely an existential threat to the continuance of the Tory party in its present form at least, the outcome of this will be very far-reaching I feel.

It seems like Eurosceptic chickens are coming home to roost big-style. They will be swallowed up in their own mess.

Tbf, for all the stick May is getting, I don't think somebody else could have done much better. At least she isn't a coward.

Oh but she is. Very much so. She doesn't have the courage to just admit that she wants to remain and always has. Rather then just saying so and standing up for what she believes she's tried to do as little as possible to make everyone somewhat happy and failed miserably in the process. That's cowardice at it's worst. She's the leader of this country, lead woman for God's stake! She should of made her real beliefs clear and stood by them. Just about anyone with real convictions in their beliefs from either side of the debate would of done a better job them she has.

Have you thought of offering your services to the Tory party Joey ?

You`d probably do a better job than this current lot and I`d be happy to be kept on a retainer to act as a translator when you spoke publicly.

It`d be a bit like when they have someone signing for deaf people on telly, except I`d have little billboards that I`d write down what you said and hold them up so everyone could see what what you were saying.
