This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

The vote percentages up your way really surprised me mate.

Was that always on the cards ? Or has it shocked you ?

Shocked me, tbh. I thought people up here hated London more than Brussels. I called it wrong.

Having said most of the remain posters I'd seen were on student houses with the leave being on residential housing so I perhaps should have seen it coming.

now ive heard a few people saying they voted out but didnt expect out to win and now regretting it!!

this is bad as switching from lib dem to tory because they lied over tuition fees

i have no problem with people voting for whatever they feel is best, but this is just madness!

Not disputing that.

I've always said - as has Sturgeon/Hammond - that there will be another referendum and one day, they'll vote for it.

What I'm saying here, is - in this football fans humble opinion - the Scots voted for what they did. They knew there was an EU referendum coming up, Salmonds campaign leveraged that as "We could go out of the EU..."

If/when the EU referendum triggers another Scot referendum, even if they vote remain, there will be another referendum bubbling - it'll never stop.

The problem with your argument is that you ignore the electorate for that referendum.

EU citizens, including the English, Welsh and Irish, and Commonwealth citizens (in other words, people who were not resident in their own countries) were eligible to vote in that referendum. Any Scottish residents outside Scotland were not allowed to vote (including a very angry partner of mine).

What argument?

I've not ignored anything...

My point was there is a thirst from a significant number for Scottish independence and they wanted another referendum. If it wasn't the EU vote, it would have been something else.

Alex Hammond himself, said repeatedly after Scotland voted to remain that they'd seek another referendum to leave.

Eligibility - the Scottish people opted for in their referendum - for clarity was;

  • British citizens resident in Scotland.
  • Commonwealth citizens resident in Scotland who have leave to remain in the UK or do not require such leave.
  • Citizens of the Republic of Ireland and other EU countries resident in Scotland.
  • Members of the House of Lords resident in Scotland.
  • Service personnel serving in the UK or overseas with the armed forces who are registered to vote in Scotland.
  • Crown personnel serving outside the UK with HM Government who are registered to vote in Scotland.
the minimum age for voting in this referendum will be 16 instead of the usual 18

The Scots determined those above, were deemed eligible to determine their future. I'm sorry the Scots deemed your partner not eligible to vote in their referendum but that's their call.

They voted, knowingly, that Britain had an EU referendum and they could be taken out of the EU if Britain votes that way. The leave campaign wasn't quiet about that fact.

They weighed up the positives vs negatives - they voted against their own independence - so they don't have an independent voice/vote.

I didn't think it would win either, shocked when i read the news.

Not regretting the decision like, but yesterday i was convinced i was making a losing vote.
