I don't follow you.

Apologies. Typo using my phone. I meant to say if the EU was just a trade grouping as had been suggested on this thread, then all the issues mentioned in the article you quoted wouldn't be so difficult to sort out. When one country is enmeshed in a close relationship with other countries it becomes difficult to get out of that relationship (even if, as I think the article suggests) both sides have the will

But that is the same in the Christian world. You (as a white male Anglo-Saxon) just don't see it.

Let me ask you this. Does it ever bemuse or frustrate you that seemingly intelligent people don't notice what you notice about Islam? Are they not as clever as you? Or is it that they see it but they just don't feel that threatened by it?

I assure you I am fully aware of what Christians think or of what I as a male think so I don't find your opinion of me correct on that.

It does frustrate me when people go with political correctness so much that refuse to see what other people (eg many of those who voted for Brexit) see.

Do I feel threatened by Islam? I would say no.

Do others feel threatened by Islam? I would say yes.

I happen to think that so-called "political correctness" is just decency and good manners. Or, in many cases, merely the rejection of bad manners and boorishness.

Do I feel threatened by Islam? I would say no.

Then I would suggest that we need to support the poor Muslims who are the real victims of this paranoid fear by convincing those who are fearful that they are wrong.

I'd like to see us do that without being blind to things happening in that community that infringe other peoples rights

Wow, you leave a thread for a couple of days and all the left wing liberals jump in crying about about the nasty tories, Spain and religion. Lads, it's done, we are leaving. It's now just about the terms and the negotiations, that's it, nothing more. Meanwhile the SNP will be aggrieved about something or another, but that's life, and the Labour Party will continue to become an irrelevance. All those who can't live without the EU can move to Scotland, but I can't think there will be many takers or they could actually move to mainland Europe, and I'll bet there aren't too many of them either. The truth is that we are one of the best countries to live in, it will get even better, and those like Clegg and Dim Farron who are so enamoured with the EU will remain in the U.K. The vote is done, its over, it's just the terms now, so get behind the government and help the UK to get the best deal.........oh and stop moaning for christs sake.....

You see, it's interesting because I am no fan of sexism (and racism and homophobia) in Islam (or in other religions) and yet I bristle at the hijab, for example, being used as a stick to beat Islam and Muslims with. Seriously, be very careful about this.

The way I look at it is this: We are not going to wave a magic wand and make Islamic culture be as egalitarian as we'd like it to be within our lifetime. Some things just can't be achieved, short-term.

But what we can say, if we're being honest and open-hearted, is that the vilification of Islam for its apparent sexism and "backwardness" will only heighten the problem and delay the "solution."

A bit of humility on the part of the West wouldn't go amiss.

Agreed. Rather than just focus on Islam though I'd like to see more of a general focus on anything that infringes peoples rights.

People have the right to believe and practice what they want. Where this leads to coercion or bullying of someone else though to conform to the first persons idea of what is correct, I cant support that.

I would look at what is taught in schools and mosques. I would teach children to make and have confidence in their own opinions.

You seem to have been on here all day, hope you've found time to grab a meal and go to the loo.
Opinion polls suggest that many remainers have done the decent thing and accepted the verdict of the British people. But there is still a hardcore of Remoaner extremists intent on defying the referendum result. These people seem to me to be fanatics, calling them jihadists wouldn't be wide of the mark.
Here is a question. How could any organisation in the public or private sector survive if it did ( like the EU has done for 16 consecutive years) have its' annual accounts fail to be signed off by its' auditors? Here in the UK they would be wound up by HMRC within 3 years at most. The EU is corrupt and dysfunctional, just beats me how any intelligent person can want to be a part of it.

The truth is that we will not stop moaning. We will continue pointing out the stupidity and short-sightedness of this terrible decision. Who knows, cone, perhaps sanity will prevail. Kisses
Would be interested to know why you think the EU (please don't confuse with Europe) is such a good thing.
