SELF-harm comes in many forms. One form of it, perhaps, comes in reading the words of Nigel Farage, calling, as he did last weekend, for a referendum on Net Zero. Farage himself describes what he considers to be another, summing up the UK’s net zero strategy as an “act of appalling self-harm”.

Perhaps he can view this as such because, now 57 years old, Mr Brexit views said self as lasting no longer than his own lifetime. A recent IPCC report, however, tells us a little about the kind of planetary self-harm that we are likely to inflict if we don’t deliver on net zero.

As Julian Lennon says here, we were not made aware of what we were doing.

The blame must cease to be put on the general public. Most people will recycle.

You alone are not responsible for global warming - what about airlines and shipping lines?

Like you say, a lot of it is systemic, driven by an abstract economics that fails to integrate 'external costs' adequately.

Even recently, when WFH can knock a small percentage off of consumption, the government opted to force people back to everyone's detriment except those holding an interest in city centre real estate. Also see, subsidising supermarket packaging systems rather than them adapting and localising.

It will be lapped up by top gear fans, the 'I'm just asking questions brigade' and the 'do your own research brigade' , which consists of no academic learning. This desire to have dogmatic opinions on subject we barely understand is a real flaw.
It's such an easy sell mate. Obviously, it would be fantastic to keep on accelerating our consumerism and believing in infinite economic growth in a finite world with limited resources, and with no environmental impact. Unfortunately that's not the case, and with government doing nothing systemically, adapting will be too hard for most, even if they wish to do so.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban once again refused to help Ukraine with weapons and support the embargo on gas and oil from Russia.
