Ah Ralphy, what a character. (Was the bail bondsman in 'midnight run' as well)
I always related more to Agent Smith:

India’s ‘Silicon Valley’ is running dry as residents urged to take fewer showers and use disposable cutlery

Bengaluru, IndiaCNN —
The water tanker arrives once every two weeks, its 1,000 liters expected to serve hundreds of people in this suburb of India’s most high-tech metropolis, where women carrying empty buckets come clamoring to quench their thirst.

[...]

The tech hub, known as India’s “Silicon Valley” and home to giant multinationals like Infosys and Wipro, requires about 2 billion liters (528 million gallons) of water for its nearly 14 million residents every day. But those numbers dwindled to alarming levels, falling about 50% over the past week, according to the chairman of the city’s water supply and sewage board, V. Ram Prasat Manohar.

Residents have been advised to use water sparingly – encouraged to bathe on alternate days, use disposable cutlery, and limit washing clothes and utensils.

It’s a crisis that has been described as dire by those who live in Bengaluru – and experts warn it is only going to get worse as mercury levels climb in the lead up to summer.

Glad the big-brains are stepping up to solve our existential crisis.

water up, energy up, profits up, bonuses up. (council tax up, food bank usage up, nhs waiting times up, average age of mortality down)

britain is a failed state, get out if you can.

Thankfully we will have a government regulator to sort out the Premier League like they have done for the Energy and Water markets in the UK.

this sort of thing is what they should have been spending their bonuses / dividends on though

Huge solar farm at Postling, near Folkestone, rejected by council

A solar farm which could power 5,000 homes has been rejected by a Green-led district council over fears it could visually harm the landscape.
Power firm RNA Energy first put forward the plans for a 55-acre solar array - the size of 30 football pitches - at Pent Farm, Postling, in December 2022.

Reality:
"3 Green, 1 Labour voted in favour. 1 Green, 3 Labour, 2 Tory, 1 Lib Dem, 1 Independent voted against.

  • It's not a "Green council" (in fact the body in question is a planning committee)
  • 3 of the 4 greens on the committee voted for it
  • the one Green being quoted there switching their position would not have swung it"

AI companies eye fossil fuels to meet booming energy demand

Recent reports suggest renewable energy sources alone won’t be enough to meet data centers' increasingly intensive power needs.

It takes massive amounts of energy to power the data center brains of popular artificial intelligence models. That demand is only growing. In 2024, many of Silicon Valley’s largest tech giants and hoards of budding, well-funded startups have (very publically) aligned themselves with climate action–awash with PR about their sustainability goals, their carbon neutral pledges, and their promises to prioritize recycled materials. But as AI’s intensive energy demands become more apparent, it seems like many of those supposed green priorities could be jeopardized.

A March International Energy Agency forecast estimates input-hungry AI models and cryptocurrency mining combined could cause data centers worldwide to double their energy use in just two years. Recent reports suggest tech leaders interested in staying relevant in the booming AI race may consider turning to old-fashioned, carbon-emitting energy sources to help meet that demand.

Amazon just bought a 100% nuclear-powered data center

They'll end up fighting wars over water in the very near future..

Canada will be invaded by the US. Guaranteed.

I think they are, and Corporations don't need to invade a financially open nation, they've already surrendered their resources. As you can see highlighted above, the corporations will take what they want, it's the citizens, SME's and small farms that will suffer.
