Wildfires in the Texas Panhandle have now burned over 800 square miles of earth. Thankfully, there is a good chance of rain and possibly snow tomorrow that we hope will stop the spread. Further thanks given that the area is not heavily populated and no deaths are reported. Greatest thanks given the fires did not impact the Pantex plant east of Amarillo, TX. Pantex is where the nuclear arsenal of the United States is assembled and disassembled, and where maintenance is performed.

For my own perspective, I looked up and found 800 square miles is equivalent of 10% the size of Wales.
We use the metric system mate. That's 1 deciWales.

Edit: it's a real catastrophe we're creating. Arizona/ Texas/ New Mexico/ etc. are potentially going to be simply uninhabitable one day due to climate change.

Metric... huh?

US Census Bureau is projecting that by the end of this century the Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and Austin/San Antonio metro areas will the the three largest populations in the entire United States. My reactions are two:

1. Where will we get all the water?
2. I'm glad I will be dead.

@NilSatisOptimum when do you trim your hedges mate?

Saw something in labour thread last night. Could see a brand of echo chamber was ill informing each other about
legality. Sitting at allotment shed on the edge of town sipping chae latte tapping away ponfiticating about green credentials does not make people experts in the countryside management, they think it does which is cute in the niave town person way ( Corbyn legacy it should be named). Anyways, best of luck in saving the planet from ones keyboard. :)

See, I knew you'd be able to help with this, it's just a case of filtering out the resentiment.

Put us all straight then and cash in on the kudos.

UK gives £600m backing to Jim Ratcliffe’s ‘carbon bomb’ petrochemical plant

Campaigners say Ineos project in Antwerp will turbocharge plastic production on a scale not seen before in Europe

The UK government is providing a €700m (£600m) guarantee for the billionaire Jim Ratcliffe to build the biggest petrochemical plant in Europe in 30 years that will turbocharge plastic production.

The huge petrochemical plant has been described as a “carbon bomb” by campaigners. Being constructed in the Belgian city of Antwerp by Ratcliffe’s company Ineos, it will bring plastic production to Europe on a scale not seen before, just as countries are trying to negotiate a binding global treaty to tackle the growing problem of plastic pollution.

Nice one Jim.

Really think you have to be sociopathic scum to be doing this. What’s the point in making sure you put your plastic bottle in the correct bin. People should just start chucking their plastic on the street and dumping outside of MPs houses.
