Odds that the necessary infrastructure doesn't get put in place in Britain?
Unless I’m being stupid, which is very possible, the article says we could end up with 200m tonnes of solar panel scrap by 2050. But we are creating 400m tonnes of plastic a year now. And we have a plant opening to recycle the solar panels already so you would hope in 27 years there will be loads of them. Or we will have made solar panels more efficient.

Silly example but I haven’t had to change a light bulb in over 7 years. 20 years ago that wouldn’t have been the case. This article just seems a bit weird.

Do we have a recycling plant in Britain? The article seemed to focus on European plants. Agree it seems a bit alarmist

If its not AI, it is eco-apocalypse.

Sorry when I said “we” I meant the World. My point was that this specific “eco-disaster” the article mentions seems a bit sensationalist. Don’t get me wrong, I think we are probably screwed. And maybe sensationalist articles are a good way to try and wake people up. But by the same token you don’t want to be the boy who cried wolf. Stuff like this will get climate change deniers all excited about how solar panels are pointless and it’s all a scam

When it comes to electric vehicle batteries in this country we are prepared to do nothing from manufacture, refinery or recycling. We are miles behind other countries on this front.
It's almost like we've had a succession of useless governments who have failed to grasp long term trends and have no long term strategy.

Wouldn't happen in Britain though. Best country in the world, mate. *waves flag, thinks of late queen, gets teary eyed*

I was at the Zero Innovation event few weeks back and i was getting the same message from all the exhibators at it " Governement needs to do more " not just in terms of financial support but policy changes.

A new company who are planning to do the first lithium refinery in the UK and will also recycle batteries are getting offered support and plenty of cash from other countries to set the plant up in there Country instead of the UK.

China is a massive worry when it comes to the in demand materials like Lithium, they are buying it all up.

Haven't deep dived on it, but would be interesting to hear what scope for advancement there is on sodium ion batteries.

As per the British government, its a sad tale you tell but a familiar one. Getting very hard to square the circle that some tory voters might not be awful people.
