What is happening here? Why’s there more sewage in uk waters?
Not familiar with this specific case, but the usual factors are water companies taking advantage of legislation that allows them to discharge raw sewage during 'high' rainfall. Urbanisation also increases run off and agriculture is common enemy of river biodiversity with fertiliser nutrients, erosion, run off and animal effluent. The rivers are not being protected.

Because our environmental regulations are essentially a polluters charter and geared to protecting the rights of private companies to make profits over and ecological or environmental concern.
News carrying a load of mither about the waste surrounding surfing, knackered boards and wet suits etc.
It's taken 13 years and I've finally found the first tory actions leading to something positive, although a perversion thereof. With the water companies allowed to pollute rivers and the coast with raw effluent, who's brave enough to surf in the swill? Problem although not solved fully, at least partly addressed. Blessed are the crap spreaders.
