In the end, it'll all be fine for Elon and Twitter. Too many fame-hungry people in the world to up and leave. Just like all of those celebrities who gleefully said they'd move to Canada if Trump became President. Not gonna happen - they all NEED Twitter to feed their egos.

I agree. Lots of mental gymnastics going on among the progressive crowd as to why they are staying on Twitter (the same crowd that is quick to send a tweet in support of boycotting Nike, Adidas, etc) but they won’t quit Twitter because they have amassed >5K followers and love the “likes.”

Twitter is useful to find out stuff. And I’m not referring to anyone here on GOT.

The difference is, at the moment, there’s no alternative.

I agree that I don’t think there will in the short-term a large boycott by users, both for those reasons abovr and @Ruairi77’s that there is no real replacement. But a rise in spam/bots/slurs will likely reduce use overall.

However even if things remain broadly the same it doesn’t make Twitter a viable business - it was only profitable one year in the last 8 iirc and that was before Musk took a flamethrower to the ad revenue that accounts for over 90% of income. The layoffs and cost cutting will in the long term stop some of the cash drain (although in the short term exacerbate it) but unless Musk can find significant alternate revenue streams (porn seems to be a likely one) that $1billion in interest payments is going to be one hell of a weight.
