His pinned tweet is this.

Just spitballing here but perhaps advertisers see this biased framing as a major red flag, along with the posting of gross conspiracy theories and flirting with far right groups, of how the he plans to run the site. And if they wanted to market to that group there are, despite the complaints, lots of sites for that including GAP, Parlor, Truth Social, Fox news, newsmax etc.

Also him whining about how unfair people are to him and his new company at the same time as thousands are getting fired without legal notice is very on brand.

I always wondered if free speech meant advertiser spend at large private companies. Now I know.

And they all did it single handed, with no help or work from anyone else. Also, not one single person you mention has 'invented' anything that comes close to being a necessity aside from perhaps Gates. I mean virgin records hardly altered the course of humankind.
Amazon accounts for like half of internet sales in the US, there is probably vacuum in most houses in the west, facebook while I hate it has an insane amount of users, virgin records was the first of it's kind.

Branson pretty much started on his own in school selling records over the phone, zuck was a student who coded facebook from the ground up, bezos started amazon off as a bookstore before turning it into the behemoth it is today. Sure they will have had some help along the way, but is that a bad thing, I am sure you have had help to get where you are, just as I have. Are people only allowed to be successful if they do absolutely everything themselves?

Say what you want about Musk, he is not perfect, but has definitely brought value to this world. SpaceX alone is amazing, but you will probably say well he didn't program or build the engines, well Steve Jobs didn't manufacture the iphone but the common theme amongst these people is they all had the vision.

I think it’s best that we just respectfully agree to disagree on that point mate, I don’t think either of us are likely to shift our view
if you ever come up with a novel innovation, work really hard to bring it market and establish a huge company that earns you a fortune, would that make you a baddy?

Suspect all his tactics are about maintaining his profile in the news cycle. He realises the currency of celebrity and has been mightily reliant on subsidies from US that might not have been an option if he was joe nobody. The free speech thing is a fairly obvious dog whistle to the far right.

Trump will announce his presidency punt this month, probably on twitter. The platform will become the gutter of free speech.

I never mentioned that stuff they did was in any way vital or world changing. I said they invented stuff that millions of folk are happy to use/pay for. I mean Ashley made his cash from selling cheap tat and by being, generously, focused on his costs.

If no one bought anything, he would not be rich.

Depends how I implement it, and behave with that wealth. If it were me personally I would ensure I paid and treated my staff well and they were well looked after, and would give them share options which would ensure that they had a say in the running of the company. I also would ensure I paid my taxes and didn’t use every method available to me to avoid them.

All of the above would likely ensure I would not become a billionaire, however.

I’ve seen that analysis from several marketing people too - any idea on why?

Is it because the ads are targeted better? Or because of the content of the site, Twitter more news focused for example?

Yeah it's easier/more accurate to target on Facebook and Google. Less bots, content is more receptive to ads - I just think it's as simple as people are spending less, advertisers see less return, cut their cloth and allocate any budget they have to the better performing platforms.

I don't think the massive media buyers are being controlled by anything other than budgets. CPM (Cost per 1,000 ad impressions) is a lot cheaper on Facebook/Instagram than it is on Twitter.
