My god you lot.
you're the fella who just pulled Owen Jones out for criticism in a conversation involving Elon Musk and Alex Jones.
Whats wrong with you??

It's 2025 and we're facing into 4 years of fascist far right oligarcy and it's coming to the UK fast
and your hot take is Owen Jones is a cry baby?

Couldnt care less if I come off as hysterical or a snow flake
I've had enough of this kind of terrible framing.

But what is the driver? Why the dramatic switch to the right? It cannot be money, they will lose followers from doing this. What is behind it all?

Very strange
"I can tell which way the wind is blowing, so I'll throw my all in with whichever scum are in power next because you are better the devil you know. I like being wealthy and want to remain that way. No chance is trump et al painting me as a pariah figure, I'm not getting shot in the back next..."

'Giordano Bruno' springs to mind.

The account you are replying to doesn't like the gay community. It has been very clear regards it's bigotry and agenda. Jones is openly gay, and has been a target for over a decade for being one of 'dem libz' to an ever growing spiteful percentage of the populace that fancy going back in time to say the 1930's where women knew their place, there were only white faces, the poor were for down treading, and hurrah for jolly england. Basically a rees mogg moist dream.

His delivery is mildly annoying, and I get why people don’t take to him but the amount of stick sent Owen Jones’ way is weird. Especially given his work highlighting class inequalities but many people would rather get all giddy over lying billionaires who couldn’t give two [Poor language removed] about them.

It’s the same people who rip into labour after 6 months but didn’t utter a word during 14 years of Tory devastation.

Very transparent (though they deny it).

It still doesnt explain this rapid shift
There’s likely multiple reasons.

One that springs to mind is the issue of Social Media being used as a weapon for modern information warfare.

We’ve seen it from the Russian troll farms, right wing disinformation causing riots, influencing elections all the way back to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, With Facebook being accused of selling data to outside companies and of course the spread of disinformation influencing the Brexit vote.

It feels like the left leaning parties world wide want tighter controls on these platforms, especially concerning disinformation and the owners being held accountable for content posted on their platforms.

The right relies heavily on disinformation and will shout the usual “fReEdOm oF sPeEcH” rhetoric in this regard. So it’s likely more beneficial for big tech platform owners like Musk and Zuckerberg to play ball with the right wing populists.
As for Bezos, he’s a sub-human scumbag who’d run his factories like Dickensian Workhouses if he could get away with it, so no surprise on him supporting the types of people who want to crush unions.

Of course this doesn’t apply to your social media empire if it happens to be Chinese owned ;)

That makes sense though im still surprised these guys egos allow them to ‘switch sides’ so dramatically and so obviously- again, so strange

Read the "The Sovereign Individual - Mastering the Transition to the Information Age". It is a seminal book for these tech-bros (barons).

You'll get a feel for how they want to shape the world.

Thanks. Unlikely I’ll read it as I’m still on page ten of my Christmas book from the kids (Raising hare, A moving and fascinating meditation on freedom, trust, loss, and our relationship with the natural world, explored through the story of one woman’s unlikely friendship with a wild hare :coffee: ) and, it sounds a little above my zone!

I still struggle with the reason they are all turning to the dark side- it’s death Vader-esque. Zuckerberg seems to have switched overnight

It suggests radical societal changes driven by the information revolution. It predicts the decline of the nation-state as tech liberates individuals from government control, creating a world where success is driven by the individual. Especially nice if said individuals are billionaires.

The book argues that this new age will be dominated by "Sovereign Individuals," whose wealth and freedom will enable them to operate beyond the reach of traditional governance, relying on cyberspace as a tax-free, regulation-free domain (AI, crypto, social media etc). The book takes a position that governments are basically organised crime, predicting that politiciabs will struggle to retain power as tax revenues decline and services are privatised.

Typical with rich mens planning the privileged thrive, the poor left-behind populations becoming increasingly patriotic and violent, leading to social unrest and the fragmentation of nations (the west, Brexit, MAGA, Reform/Robinson, AfD, Putin etc).

It is a deeply libertarian manifesto that challenges traditional notions of democracy, welfare, and collective responsibility and nation states.

I've meant to read it but never got round to it.
Isnt the basic premise that nations will be a thing of the past and everything will be down to the individual?
I'd heard Thiel talk about it before and that put me off.
I'll give it a read (or listen if theres an audio version)
