H-1B visas, in principle, aren't necessarily bad, as they enable the U.S. to recruit skilled workers in areas facing job shortages.

What’s contradictory, however, is that Elon supports H-1B visas while also pushing to eliminate funding for education by defunding the DOE and cutting Title 1 funding for schools—policies that would likely make Americans less educated and therefore more reliant on high-skilled foreign Labour.

His argument for not training up and educating Americans was

No surprise that his priorities seem more focused on his personal and corporate interests rather than the well-being of average Americans. He backs policies that could undermine the education system and hinder innovation in the U.S, he's a charlatan.

I wonder if the Elon supporters here are still riding the gravy train or if they've fallen in line with the MAGA crowd like the good little 🐑 they are.

I have to admit, I’m taking a great amount of pleasure in seeing these egotistical maniacs tear each other to shreds…

It'll be a big problem if the intention is to cream off the top talent from poorer countries.

Why would you stay and teach in the UK, why would you Doctor, why would you work in creative industries?

If the US becomes attractive and easy for those people to move, it's a big problem for the UK who already have a massive talent drain.

The UK spends so heavily on debt, young high earners will be paying that off for decades, while the political class court the retired and low earners.

It depends I guess. It wouldn’t be a good thing for the UK for sure.

Anecdotally, a lot of people I’ve met, will mention the current government of their home nation as being one of the primary drivers for them leaving. (Especially Americans and Brazilians) So would a significant amount of Brits be attracted to moving to a country with a total lunatic as the president?

Maybe instead of taking British talent they would find it easier to attract professionals from other countries over the UK.

There is that, but I'd be more concerned with day-to-day issues like gun violence, the US healthcare system, having to drive literally anywhere, or dealing with their police. Sure if you have an amazing tech job then you might end up in a good area with coverage through your job but the more I've seen of daily life in the US (as the internet has evolved and there are more videos floating around of it) the less I've wanted to even visit, let alone go there forever.

I suppose it depends on the incentives offered and how much they are having to subsidise failures of previous generations. If high earners are expected to service debt of those who are given preferential treatment by populist, they will move.

A reduction in rights from EU, talk of scrapping ECHR, reduction in living standards, cost of living and property prices, diminishing pension reward.

There are plenty of teachers I know who wouldn't work in the US because of gun ownership, but doctors, there are plenty who would. Lots I know looking at moving to Australia.

I do enjoy visiting the states but yeah, have no desire to live there.
