Yeah, this is very odd. I have a friend in Atlanta who is messaging me the most deranged stuff despite the fact that his party has absolutely crushed the Democrats. He admitted that he can't stand Matt Gaetz but is is delighted that he annoys "the Left". His priorities are all over the show

X is now mostly a right wing echo chamber, with the 'For You' section turning into a cesspit of alt-right dweebs and crypto perverts.

In my case, I only use Social Media these days to network/promote my music and am sick of every post being overtaken by porn bots and crypto scammers.
X is an absolute mess at the moment and that's a big reason for a lot of people wanting to leave.

In my case, I only use Social Media these days to network/promote my music and am sick of every post being overtaken by porn bots and crypto scammers.

I probably want to think this through a bit more, but it kinda comes down to what you view social media to be. Whether you view it as a social place, for fun and humour and creativity, or primarily as a political discourse platform.

If you want it to be a fun, social place, you probably don’t want it to be an argumentative, slur-throwing environment.

I’m having a Xmas party at mine this year with some close friends, but I’m not gonna invite a load of bellends round as well, just for balance, and to ensure my Xmas party isn’t an echo chamber.

My issue with X, is that, as I said above, I use it mostly for music and a few everton accounts I follow. Occasionally I look up various political events, but don't really follow any political accounts.
Yet my 'For You' section, which I have just checked, has a load of Musk's nonsense memes, an account posting a vid of people being killed in car accidents, Jake Paul offering Connor McGregor out, various right wing politicians calling 'The Left' braindead and the like.

I don't follow or interact with any of these types of accounts, I don't use social media for that and yet there it is.

X is the only platform that does this so aggressively.

Never used twitter besides for about a month myself, but don't use social media much at all really nowadays as think by and large it's not actually a constructive forum.

My entire use of twitter for over ten years has been links my brother sends me to stay analysis data on footy and to see Bobbles early team news, not joking on that either. Never ever saw the point.

Oh I tell a lie I did use it a few times to troll the esk.

Yeah, Twitter was already sliding backwards before Musk took over to be fair, but he accelerated it, between the bots, adverts and obvious promotion of his account and others like it.

I’ve said before that I gave up on it shortly after he was promoting the Paul Pelosi conspiracy stuff, which I found quite awful and dangerous for a guy in his position. That seems quite mild now, looking back.
