Current Affairs Elon Musk

Decided to see what happens to the SpaceX test launch this morning. The audio for the launch consists of an engineer and two young corporate hacks, who clearly have no broadcasting experience, spouting scripted self-congratulatory corporate-speak. I muted the audio prior to launch, because it was that or gouge my own eardrums out. The engineer can't even hide when he starts reading sheet of paper or a teleprompter.

It says something about Musk's state of mind that he has hired someone who thought these people were a good PR look. It takes a special kind of person to sound excited about a "rapid unexpected disassembly" of the booster (translation: it blew up), then play off mission failure (seems they lost contact with the launch vehicle much later in the flight) as a tremendous success.

Let's just say I wouldn't want to take a ride on the thing.

OceansGate-level safety concerns...

“Elon’s concept that SpaceX is on this mission to go to Mars as fast as possible and save humanity permeates every part of the company,” said Tom Moline, a former SpaceX senior avionics engineer who was among a group of employees fired after raising workplace complaints. “The company justifies casting aside anything that could stand in the way of accomplishing that goal, including worker safety.”

“Musk himself at times appeared cavalier about safety on visits to SpaceX sites: Four employees said he sometimes played with a novelty flamethrower and discouraged workers from wearing safety yellow because he dislikes bright colors.”

His Tesla plants had a bad safety record too

If he’s talking about setting the ground work for human colonies and ‘saving’ us by shipping people to Mars then he seriously has his head in the clouds this fella if he thinks anyone other than utter mental cases want to take a one way trip to a long dead desert planet to live in tiny pressurised compartments, breathing recycled air and living on freeze dried food for the rest of their lives.

No thanks, Elon.
