See above. Stupid fingers.
Yeah I saw. Didn't read the full thread. Bit f a long post this (and off topic)....

I'm not into the picking sides around trans issues as I think the debate gets far too easily skewed into extreme positions and I don't feel like I'm qualified to offer a firm opinion when I'm not aware of the full facts and implications. My general outlook is that I want people's rights to be protected and they should be free to be/practice whatever they want provided it causes no harm to others.

I can't quite understand the term "trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist". Feminism, fundamentally is about equality of sexes and that society gives greater weight to male perception/views.

There has been a long standing feminist cause to improve women's rights/access to contraception and reproductive rights.

If you're campaigning for both of these things then accepting of Trans women as women, undermines the other does it not?

Fundamentally is this a question about how we define women, because women's rights have been hard fought and struggled for (not suggesting that trans rights have not).

By suggesting a tran women is a woman creates conflict with that doesn't it?

If you treat trans woman as woman and treat woman with equality I don't see any conflict whatsoever

Which I think is the simple answer. Aside from achieving that (I'm not being flippant here by the way), it seems simple enough to me.

I assumed there was more to the debate.
I mean there could well be, from my perspective (as a slow thinking straight white male) I personally don't see it another way. The circles I travel in socially my female friends are all of the ally perspective. Unfortunately, in work or from sporting associations those i meet who see it another way are of the rogan/matt walsh/father ted/tubey variety and any argument they do make is a thin veil for their headline reading bigotry and not exactly coherant or persuasive.

As I said at the start. I steer clear of the debate largely as I don't think it's mature enough yet to be productive.

It's very entrenched on both sides and rather than creating positive strides towards acceptance, it's all about seeing difference.
